Hi new followers! Yesterday DSA members Judith Whitmer, Jacob Allen, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal & Ahmad Adé took over @nvdems. We've been hard at work after @BernieSanders's caucus win, organizing for power wherever we can.
Let us tell you a little bit about what we've been up to 1/11
The pandemic hit in earnest as we were coming down from the high of the caucus. We started a mutual aid network in March and we've given out over $13k in direct cash assistance since then. Donate: lvdsa.org/mutual-aid 2/11
With the help of @LeftCaucus, we kept the Bernie coalition organized and focused. We nominated overwhelming numbers from our ranks to the Clark County Central Committee and packed the State Central Committee at the conventions, laying the groundwork for yesterday 3/11
Over the summer, people rose up in response to the murder of George Floyd and the constant brutalization of Black people in America. We organized medic stations, donated supplies, marched, got pepper sprayed, and hit with rubber bullets because we believe #BlackLivesMatter 4/11
During election season we endorsed four of our members running for office: Anna Albertson, Radhika Kunnel, Lola Brooks, and Erika Ballou. Brooks and Ballou were victorious, and now DSA members sit on the CCSD board of trustees and as judge on the district court bench. 5/11
With the holidays upon us and the country in full-blown crisis, we raised over $40k and delivered meals to ~5000 people during our two Holiday Solidarity food drives. Hundreds of volunteers put together meal kits and delivered them around the valley. 6/11
Las Vegas has been hard-hit by the capitalist response to COVID-19. With our coalition partners we put together an eviction defense guide and a list of "second-chance" apartments for those with an eviction on their record. 7/11 bit.ly/vegaseviction bit.ly/secondchancelv
We've organized political education events, reading groups, and more to push ourselves to grow and learn together. We talk about black liberation, sex workers rights, how to combat fascism, and next week, how to help Indigenous power-building 8/11 lvdsa.org/events/how-soc…
We're the fastest growing chapter in the country, growing by almost 150% in 2020. We're building on each victory, learning from each crisis we face together, and getting stronger every day. Yesterday's victory was a culmination of years of organizing and just the beginning 8/11
We're taking every opportunity to build power for the working class, improve material conditions, and develop community relationships in order to create a better world. If you share our vision, join DSA and start organizing! 10/11
