Nearly five decades ago my grandfather, Leon Jaworski, took over as Watergate special prosecutor after the shocking Saturday Night Massacre. He has had a profound impact on my life.
He had the guts to take on corruption in our nation’s highest office by fighting for justice in our nation’s highest court. And he succeeded because he fought for one basic principle: no one is above the law.
My grandfather fought for America. He was a leader in the legal profession, serving in the US Army judge advocate general's department in WWII, becoming chief of the trial section of the war crimes branch.
Leon successfully served President Lyndon B Johnson and then argued the case of United States v. Nixon before the SCOTUS. The message that he left for our country is this: "No one - absolutely no one - is above the law."
My grandfather instilled a deep passion within me to take on corruption and fight for justice. He fought for America and now I am ready to fight for Texas.
Too many of our public officials think they are above the law. The tearing down of our institutions has led us to lose faith in our democracy.
We need someone who can restore integrity to public service in TX. Someone who chooses right over wrong. Someone who will use our legal system to fight for fairness and justice.
I have dedicated my career, as a lawyer and as Mayor of Galveston, to fighting corruption and fighting for justice. We need an Attorney General with the courage of my grandfather - the courage to stand up to the politically powerful.
I am prepared to live up to my grandfather's legacy. I promise to take what he has instilled in me and use that moral compass as my guide as your next Attorney General.
Will you join me? Will you fight along with me to restore ethics and integrity to the Texas AG office? Will you help me fight against corruption and for justice? We can do this if we work together.

I will help lead a statewide effort to legalize adult-use recreational purpose cannabis. Texas is ready for a regulated, pro business free market that will create 30,000 direct industry jobs and raise over $1B in revenue every year. 1/6
When we pass legislation to legalize adult-use recreational & medical marijuana it will allow us to treat veterans’ PTSD & chronic pain, & offer a wellness alternative to opioids so Texas can fight a winning war on addiction. It will allow TX to usher in positive and long... 2/6
overdue social & criminal justice reform. The war on cannabis has disproportionately affected young people & POC for decades. By legalizing it, we can put an end to a practice that has unfairly affected so many POC & their families, & find a path towards healing. 3/6
Crisis makes the obscure suddenly clear, and from our current crisis comes clarity. How did we get here? By trusting our leaders to do the right thing. But they failed us; blaming and vacationing. How do we move forward? 1/5
Support a vision of Texas where we focus on good government, rather than culture wars. Texas has immense resources. Let’s support each other and positively invest in our future. We are all in this together. 2/5
Community style local government is one of Texas’s greatest resources. We’re not out of the woods yet, and I applaud local leaders - mayors like Galveston’s Craig Brown and Brownsville’s Trey Mendez who are stepping up. 3/5
We wake up this morning to learn that Texas has sued Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Ken Paxton has further disgraced the Office of Texas Attorney General with this appalling filing in the United States Supreme Court yesterday, the sole purpose of which is to (1/6)
make a last ditch attempt to succeed where President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Guliani has repeatedly failed. It is highly suspect to see the State of Texas is not represented by its own Solicitor General in the Supreme Court, but instead by a “special counsel” (2/6)
Lawrence Joseph. This is all we need to know about the constitutional integrity of this ill-advised pleading, which I hope will be met with uniform rejection by all four states that were sued and by our esteemed Justices of the United States Supreme Court.
