10 ways to optimize your #LinkedIn Profile to increase recruiter inquiries & awareness of opportunities! A thread. #publichealth #chilombocareers

1️⃣create a custom URL that is just your name or first initial and last name. Remove the numbers! linkedin.com/help/linkedin/… #chilombocareers

2️⃣ Write a detailed “About” section that is the combination of your elevator pitch and key skills and accomplishments. Include what you’re looking for in your next position. Keywords here are searchable when recruiters are looking for applicants. Do not be shy! #chilombocareers

3️⃣ Complete your profile! Add ALL coursework & add up to 50 skills in your profile skills section if you can. Methods, software, subject area, competencies. The more you note the higher chance your profile can be found in a search. #chilombocareers

4️⃣ Review the skills assessment options and consider taking one in your field of work and interest if you can. If you fail you can take again after 6 months. #chilombocareers

5️⃣ Following up on #4, if you pass a skills tests you’ll get a badge in your profile & you’ll be alerted for jobs early that have that assessment as preferred in the job description. See a photo from my LinkedIn below #chilombocareers

6️⃣ ALWAYS send a note w/your connection request. Many people get many requests a day... Make it short & sweet- who you are, what you do, why you want to connect (what is interesting to you about that persons background). An example I recently received: #chilombocareers

7️⃣ Find a balance between how public you want your profile to be, and still having enough public content so that you can demonstrate your background. This is a personal choice depending on privacy preferences! Setting>visibility> edit your public profile #chilombocareers

8️⃣ Turn on and fully complete your recruiter preferences. Make sure you have context under your job descriptions. This is especially important if you’re actively in the job search. Example of recruiter settings pictured below #chilombocareers

9️⃣ Post about your achievements, milestones, trainings, conferences, successes and challenges. Do what makes you comfortable but sharing your professional progress is a great way to open and engage with your network. #chilombocareers

🔟 Follow organizations, people, schools of interest; search & join groups in your areas of work and interest, and engage in them! Follow hashtags such as #publichealthjobs #chilombocareers
