Ron Baron

"I happen to own 1,915,000 shares personally. I have not sold a single share and I don't expect to for another 10 years (...)

I think we are going to make a triple in this company (Tesla) in the next 10 years."
Autonomous driving worth $500m- $1Trillion in 10 years

"That could be a $40bn revenue business (...) that alone is worth the present price of the stock in 10 years"

"In addition to that, you gonna get a business in Tesla that I think gonna be $600bn a year in revenues (...)
Ron Baron continued

(...) and making $200bn a year of gross profits you get for free. A battery business that could be doing just about that much in revenues and a little bid less in profits. You get that for free. An insurance business. You get that for free. (...)

German survey with 5k people

Which of these German automakers do you consider most likely to be competitive in the field of e-mobility?

The 49% bar is 'none of those"
The same question differentiated in political orientation
The same survey results split into age groups

Interestingly the 18-29 age group has higher hopes for German automakers to be competitive with Tesla

When VW started the ID.3 design they considered it as a cheaper version of the Model 3 - a premium luxury vehicle

VW was surprized how fast Tesla was able to reduce costs despite making profits and make the car available in their price range

Now they struggle to find an answer
The pace of innovation, design, and improvement is the issue VW has

I talked about that endlessly in my articles

Tesla overtook them while they thought they still have time and now they have a severe problem
It reads like VW gave up on the ID.X already & just tries to somehow make it work and sell to survive a few years

They attempt to fix all the issues including autonomous driving with their brand new approach for the Trinity & Apollon in 2025 & buy companies & start partnerships

The latest Manager Magazin article about VW & its attempt to match Tesla confirms my most negatives views of VW and corrects some of the positives I had to neutral

The situation is worse than expected

Recommended read for all Germans

I'll likely tweet about it in the next days
Every brand in the VW Group has selected its own cell formats & purchased them separately🤦‍♂️

That has led to 20 different 🔋 battery cell formats & internal chaos

Schmall Resort Technology

"the strategy for the future concept is not quite in place yet. We still need 1-2 months"
Diess is internally still not very much liked. One issue is that he continues to hire BMW Managers expanding his network with former colleagues

When Diess heard that Tesla intends to reduce battery costs by 50% he said

Diess, "It must be possible for us to match that"

Artemis is the Audi/VW organization that supposed to develop the Trinity & Apollon BEV

GM Hitzinger was asked how many people work for Artemis

"At the moment it's still very small, we are just twelve people with whom we are building a brand new automotive tech company"

12! OMG
He continued

"We only have a few, but they are absolutely world-class people. For example, from motorsport and Apple"

The plan is that the 12 head Artemis team develops ideas that are used from the VW Group & integrated with their BEVs

I predict that won't work
GM Hitzinger

"Suddenly the car is a living space and no longer primarily a means of transportation"

While his vision is the right one nothing within the VW happens suddenly

Inertia of the infotainment system and response to touch inputs

Functional reliability of some assistance systems e.g. the
rear view camera, the parking aid

"Popping up" of many error messages not comprehensible by the drivers
VW Brand CEO Brandstätter on the question about Software issues of vehicles

(...) We have entered new territory. We are taking the bold, but also the difficult path. We have fundamentally redeveloped the latest generation of automobiles on a blank sheet of paper. (...)
VW CEO Brandstätter contined

"(..) That meant a steep learning curve for us especially in terms of the digital customer experience. We have now put that behind us. The biggest challenge was the new software architecture. We had to build up a massive amount of expertise for this"
