NEW: Republicans are going to try to claim that they’re attacking Vanita Gupta because they “back the blue." The problem? “The blue” backs Vanita Gupta. huffpost.com/entry/republic…
“I do not support defunding the police,” Gupta says. She says society places too many problems at the feet of police, and there’s a need for investment in up front solutions.
"For too long, we have placed... so many of our nation's social problems at the feet of police," Vanita Gupta said in response to a question about whether she supported "defunding the police." (She doesn't.) Says society puts too much of a burden on law enforcement.
It really is remarkable how even adversaries of Vanita Gupta in pretty heated settings just really, really like her as a person. From @SarahNLynch: reuters.com/article/us-usa…
Responding to Tom Cotton, Gupta says that she, like all Americans, hold stereotypes she needs to manage.

“It’s part of the human condition,” Gupta said. It can be managed, but only if acknowledged, she said.

“I am not above any one else in that manner."
Wait until Tom Cotton hears that James Comey said that all Americans are a little bit racist more than six years ago, in the year 2015, and received zero pushback at all. huffpost.com/entry/james-co…

NEW: There's a brand-new website to help the citizen sleuths working to hunt down the Capitol insurrectionists. It’s really quite remarkable.

#SeditionHunters

“Don’t piss off software developers,” says @jsrailton, calling @jan6evidence a “ridiculously helpful tool” that shows how citizen sleuthing efforts have matured.

Earlier this week, @capitolhunters launched jan6attack.com, which organizes all of the hashtags and evidence in a user-friendly format. The sleuthing efforts are really evolving. #SeditionHunters huffpost.com/entry/citizens…

This is outrageous, and deserves more attention.
Plenty of shame to go around here. washingtonpost.com/media/2021/03/…
One aspect of my own prosecution that just continuously blew my mind is that the bureaucrat I’d been bugging about public records requests and dealt with my internal affairs complaint just morphed into my prosecutor and didn’t think that was an issue. huffpost.com/entry/ryan-rei…

There are seven — SEVEN — FBI witnesses in the case against Jerry Ryals and Anthony Griffith.

Ryals was an apprentice electrician for Griffith. Ryals' social media boosts did them in. Case just unsealed this evening.
The iPhone screenshot function — which old acquaintances of insurrectionists readily deployed against their worst Facebook friends — may be one of the most effective tools in the Capitol probe. Previously: huffpost.com/entry/facebook…
“We definitely have enough people to overthrow this bitch. They don’t stand a f---ing chance. We got the f---ing doors open up there I guess. We’re working our way in slowly but surely.” courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

No release for QAnon Shaman.

“Defendant... has the right to assemble and to peacefully protest. What he cannot do, however, is storm into the Capitol building during a joint session of Congress to stop Congress from certifying the results of a lawful election.”
"If defenant truly believes that the only reason he participated in an assualt on the U.S. Capitol was to comply with President Trump's orders, this shows defendant's inability (or refusal) to exercise his independent judgment and conform his behavior to the law.”
The 60 Minutes+ interview reeeeaaallly didn’t help his case. Even his mom’s interview showed the court why she’d be a bad custodian. courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…

When you insurrection while still on the family plan.
Sort of defeats the purpose of a Telegram account when you make your profile image a photo of you in D.C. ahead of the insurrection wearing the same outfit you wore when you stormed the Capitol building.
