Focussing on issues such as femicide alongside abortion, protesters took to the streets, demanding that the government takes a stand against the oppression of the nation’s women.

During the protests, police turned violent and ended up teargassing many of the protesters. The police’s response antagonised the already outraged protesters, resulting in riots.

Ahead of the protests, Mexico City’s National Palace was barricaded under orders of the president. Despite this, the protesters graffitied, hammered and torched the barricades in response.
