We are busy working today to get the #DisabilityFilibuster back up and running after two concurrent 'zoom-bombings' by hateful people.
We have already made progress in this regard and things are in motion. We'll keep updating.
We are disgusted with Liberal Party and Bloc's plan to invoke a time allocation "guillotine" to shut down debate on amendments to #BillC7 that were made in February by the Senate. These amendments radically expand an already expansive Bill further.
Contrary to what Liberal Party and Bloc are suggesting there has not been months of debate on these amendments to #BillC7
Very little debate has in fact taken place about them. The original bill did not include mental illness as sole criteria for state administered death
We are not suggesting that the #DisabilityFilibuster having to TEMPORARILY shut down due to attacks by hateful people is related to this morning's announcement to quickly bring in a guillotine motion to shut down debate in House of Commons.
Silencing tho seems to be a theme.
As disabled people we believe that the people of Canada have been misled about #BillC7 by its proponents.
Its proponents include: The Liberal Party, The Bloc, Dying with Dignity and all the various academics and professionals whose careers have benefited from supporting this.
We understand that non-disabled Canadians can't ever really understand how different it is to be a disabled Canadian - particularly one is racialized, poor or otherwise multiply marginalized.
We get it. Many of us became disabled later in life. It was a shock to us too.
We have not had the opportunity to fully and accurately explain our position to you Canada. Part of what we hoped would happen with the #DisabilityFilibuster is that some of you would tune in and have a chance to listen and hopefully learn more about us & our views on #BillC7
It takes time to think. It takes time to speak. It especially takes time if you are working on crip time - which we do.
We have not had that time with you Canada.
Our lives are not pull-quotes and soundbites. Our views are shaped by our lives, Canadian history & current policy.
Various things have been said about those of us who are opposed to #BillC7 that are patently, demonstrably false.
Those falsehoods never seem to get corrected. Like other assertions of proponents of the bill that are also false, they never get challenged.
We need to get back to working on getting #DisabilityFilibuster up and running again but allow us to leave you with one thought to ponder for the day.
If something is not common in a large category but very common and pretty much universally true within a subcategory, when deciding something that only effects the subcategory should decision be based on what is common for larger category?
Track 2 of #BillC7 targets disabled people and disabled people will be the ONLY people in Canada eligible for MAID while not near end of life.
Non-disabled people tell us they don't experience ableism - generally in society and specifically in health care.
Non-disabled people tell us they are not denied the right to live in the community - tho many are denied actual housing and are criminalized for sleeping in the only place they have to sleep, so some are in fact denied the right to live in the community.
Sidebar - majority of people without housing are disabled people but there are also non-disabled homeless people.
But middle class non-disabled people are not denied the right to live in the community.
OK. We are glad about that. But disabled people in Canada are often denied that right and we are the ones being targeted by #BillC7
We are also often denied rights in education, employment
The majority of complaints heard by the Human Rights Commission are disability related.
We are discriminated against.
More so, we live in a society that was constructed to exclude us. When modern cities were built the plan was to put us far away out of sight.
We live in a society that was built by eugenicists and before that by white supremacy and ableism that wrapped itself in bias and hate and a set of beliefs and ideology they called 'science' but wasn't scientific.
We live in a society that was designed specifically and intentionally for disabled people NOT to be able to live in it. We exist in spite of our needs and bodies and minds falling outside ableist definitions of what is human.
And now the federal govt is designing - stream-lining - a fast-tracked, fully funded process for bringing about our deaths when we are not dying.
They have designed for our deaths in a society that has not designed for our lives. #KillBillC7

This is a thread about the Disability Filibuster on #BillC7
Disabled Canadians and our allies around the world plan to leave it all on the field in the final days of the Bill C7 debate
A live Zoom solidarity broadcast running round-the-clock, 24/7 beginning before Parliament sits
on Monday, March 8 and not stopping until the Prime Minister withdraws #BillC7 and returns to
the drawing board.
Parliament is scheduled to sit March 8-12 and March 22-26. Somewhere during that interval, it
appears that the Prime Minister is planning to pass #BillC7 – likely sooner rather than later.
