1. Start small
When you're starting out, promise yourself you'll write at least 100 words every day.
This reduces the friction of starting out.
Once you are more established in the habit, increase your word count.
2. Create A Place To Write
Your environment influences you.
Have you ever tried to work in a place that is far too cold?
You can't focus because your hands go numb, your feet tremble, and you feel a headache coming on.
Therefore, make your environment comfortable.
3. Win Everyday
Having a small goal of writing 100 words will help you win every day.
Force yourself to write these words no matter what.
4. Never Break The Chain
Buy a tiny calendar that you can put on your table.
Every day you write, place a checkmark on the day that you wrote.
With time, you'll create a chain of checkmarks.
Don't break the chain.
5. Take A Painful Risk
Add a deadline to your writing or product.
Tell people you're going to post it on a specific day.
If you fail, you'll risk embarrassment.
Put something on the line, to force yourself to deliver on time.
Urgency is the god of creation.
6. Discover Your Best Time To Write
I can't focus between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
So I don't write during that time.
Try out different time slots.
See how you feel when you're writing.
Stick to the one that feels more natural.
This will help you set the habit faster
7. Remove The Tiniest Of Distractions
Keeping momentum is easy.
Starting out is hard.
So make sure you reduce the friction of starting out.
If something is distracting you, terminate it.
Ideas:
- Block social media
- Put your phone away
- No music with lyrics
8. You Don't Actually Have To Write
Use a text-to-speech app.
Dictate your ideas to it!
Otter .ai is a great tool you can use.
Otter is free for up to 600 minutes of transcription.
9. Start Staking Ammo
Stack up stories you've read or listened to
Pile up testimonials you've received
Collect fascinating facts as if they were Pokemon
Having a stash of ideas can help you
- write better
- find inspiration
- become more interesting
- connect the dots faster
Write knowing your ideas are valuable.

This is a sad but amazing realization I had years ago.
I remember a time in my life when I sought the approval of others to validate my own existence.
It was a sad period of my life.
Thankfully, I overcame this dumb notion.
Today, while I do appreciate the attention I get online, and the recurring praise I get from my followers, I seek neither praise nor admiration.
