New -- Britain overtakes Russian military spending — but only offers nurses 1% pay rise

Britain faces strike action from exhausted healthcare workers angry at a “pitiful” 1% pay rise.

This comes as a new study shows the UK govt increased spending on the military to $61.5bn last year.

The UK now has 4th-largest defence budget in the world.

The new report from the IISS found that only the US, China and India spent more on their militaries than the UK last year.

Russia now spends less than the UK on its military despite being 70 times the size of the UK and having twice as many inhabitants.

Around £56.1bn of the NHS annual budget goes on staffing costs. A 1% pay rise would cost £561m.

That’s almost the same amount the MOD spent on missiles for its new fleet of F-35 fighter jets in January.

The F-35 has been called “a total piece of crap”.

THE CROWN DECLASSIFIED --

Read @pmillerinfo's groundbreaking four-part series on how the UK royals have met the tyrannical monarchies in the Gulf 217 times since the Arab Spring, how they bolster them and help sell them arms.

Thread - please retweet

UK royals have met autocratic Middle East monarchies nearly once a fortnight since 2011.

Their visits have often coincided with human rights abuses in the Gulf, where pro-democracy activists are punished for criticising the Windsors ties to regimes.

Prince Charles has held 95 meetings with repressive Middle East monarchies since the ‘Arab Spring’ protests threatened their power.

His visits tend to whitewash human rights abuses, often coinciding with repression of opposition activists.

Senior oil (and mining) company executives sit on the boards of several government departments, including the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Office, shaping the country's policies.

The Ministry of Defence has just told us that it has lifted its blacklisting of us.

The MOD has now said it “will deal with all outlets, including Declassified, with fairness and impartiality”.

See thread Image
The UK government has also formally responded to the Media Alert issued by the Council of Europe on our blacklisting.

The government told the COE: “The Ministry of Defence was wrong not to provide a comment” to Declassified UK.

The MOD’s lifting of our blacklisting follows the announcement by Defence Secretary Ben Wallace that he has ordered an “independent review”. The MOD told our lawyers @LeighDay_Law it was “wrong” not to give a comment to us and that “we apologise for this”. rb.gy/u9vwml

The UK's relationship with Saudi Arabia is one of the most under-analysed by the mainstream media, depriving the public of key knowledge about the UK's role in the world.

Check out Declassified's recent revelations in this thread.

We've revealed the UK military has a team of high-ranking soldiers embedded in the Saudi armed forces who are believed to be taking their orders from Saudi commanders.

This involves training the Saudis in “internal security”, paid for by the Saudi regime. rb.gy/mq4w2y Image
The UK has a secretive £2bn program it manages for the Saudi Arabian National Guard, which protects the ruling family and has been active in the war in Yemen. Sangcom employs ten times more people than the British government publicly admits. rb.gy/st1vxz Image
