Thou hypocrite, @borisjohnson first cast out the beam out of thine own eye
& then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Last tweet of the day on the UK vaccine posturing 1/
@nyt notes that "The EU exported 25 million doses of vaccines produced in its territory LAST MONTH to 31 countries with BRITAIN (Pfizer)& Canada the top destinations".2/
"Practically speaking, ban or no ban, Britain is not exporting vaccines authorized for use at home. The country has said it would be prepared to give excess doses to Ireland, though only after it was done with its vaccination efforts at home" 3/
This is a choice of the UK: hoard vaccines. Fine. Do not help neighbours (the same who allowed 9M of doses to leave their territory to yours in just one month) when you are sitting on vast surplus. Fine. 4/
But then have the decency not to smirk & accuse others of protectionism & lack of solidarity. It is disgraceful. The UK has imposed a de facto ban. FULL STOP The fact it is contractual - an exclusivity clause - rather than a regulation does not change this fact. 5/
It's just less blatant, more hypocritical, dare I say it, more "English". This hypocrisy allows our PM in his recent Munich speech to claim that Britain is fanning "the flames of solidarity"? Imagine if the EU had blocked "our" 9M Pfizer vaccines !!!!! Tabloid frenzy 6/
Yes but COVAX... say the Brexitears. So? The EU funded COVAX too. But millions of vaccines have also left its territory for those of poor countries. And contrary to us the EU has a vaccine SHORTAGE & politicians may pay a price for these noble gestures of solidarity to others. 7/
So @borisjohnson, @DominicRaab and this whole lousy government of selfish greedy corrupt men & women, you know what? STFU because frankly the lies, the indecency, the hypocrisy, the continual posturing and boasting, it is becoming too much to bear.8/

Hello Brexiters criticising "SELFISH EU" : 174 shipments of millions of vaccines manufactured in the EU to 30 other countries since 30/1/21
Meanwhile shipments to other countries by US & UK are still zero: YES, ZERO 00000000
This doesn't stop our PM giving morality lessons to others & stating in his Munich speech that "we in the UK have kept the flame of cooperation alive". 🤣😅

Absolutely correct from @NicolaSturgeon to put the counterfactual. If the matter had not been referred when they included alleged criminal allegations, she would have been criticised for this too.Whatever happened she would have been criticised. As she says an invidious situation
"really difficult situation, really difficult judgement". Absolutely. Given what AS went through, she understands he took a different view. But that does not make the decision (to refer the matter) wrong.
I completely agree that mediation - rejected by the complainants- nor arbitration of such a matter would have been right. As she said she could not intervene to bring them about to "thwart the natural course of the investigation"

@NicolaSturgeon demonstrates once again how she is the best politician in the UK. A masterful opening statement skillfully mixing political & personal, just the right tone in my view. What a fighter she is.
And what mastery of her brief. She hardly glances at her notes.
She answers the first questions exposing clearly the difficulties of setting policies, the complexity of taking decisions under multiple pressures, how every choice is always balanced against others.

I read this article by @OborneTweets when it was published. I reread it tonight. I found it even better. On this day when @MPGeorgeEustice has been allowed to get away with lying once again about the "shellfish ban" that never was (a simple subject on 2/

which any good journalist could inform him/herself in 30mn, Oborne's article is a searing analysis of the sad state of affairs we are in. The daily repetition without shame of truly gigantic lies is unbelievably corrosive. It is soul destroying. It stains us all. 3/
The lazy cowards who allow these lies to be propagated without challenges & allow themselves to be used as conduit for propaganda for the sake of basting in their warm proximity to Power should not be called journalists. They are mere mouthpieces. The fact that they remain 4/

Why is Johnson's speech at the Munich conference hailed in some quarters, even by some journalists that should know better, as "a major policy speech" with "substance"? I went to read it expecting for once to be pleasantly surprised. Alas! Thread gov.uk/government/spe…
It is full of the usual misplaced optimism not backed by any serious analysis, jingoism & digs at other EU leaders with transparent, nearly servile efforts to regain favour with the new US administration. A few examples:
The speech starts with the trademark rethorical device beloved of the UK right (whether to attack "woke' culture or pro-EU sentiments): A wildly exaggerated overblown simplistic statement that you then go on to "disprove"

Yes. David Frost is there to implement the deal, nothing more than the deal & to hold the line on sovereignty at any costs.
This will suit not just the UKG but the EU too. At least Frost is unlikely to moan about the direct consequences of his refusal to compromise e.g on mobility or SPS
It may have the advantage that he will tell the brutal truth to businesses. At least business eill know where they stand: in a very lonely place where they are seen as potential casualties for the greater good. Tories like Frost likely think it a benefit to get rid of the "weak"
