Aged 23: visiting reporter accompanies me on jobs then tells colleagues he his divorcing his wife and marrying me. We never even dated. Weirdo.
Aged 30: man on train enagages me in conversation, recognises I’m a broadcaster, stalks me for six months. Weirdo.
Aged 40: man using same pool as me (every morning after presenting mt breakfast show) follows me around sports centre everytime I’m there. Propositions me in steam room. I report him. See him months later at Broadcasting House.
Aged 50: A man begins stalking me at work...
Outside work to be clear. Follows me onto trains, appears at local train station, then at my home. After almost three years of tbis he is prosecuted.

Now look...one Elizabeth Gaskell got there well before me in 1854 and wrote a beautiful novel about place and love in the two halves of England, but I feel compelled to write about that strange, continuing divide as pandemic and politics reveal the same old madness.
