So that'll be a full year after the end of transition that they apply controls to his coming into the UK from Europe. If indeed they do it then.
They do this for the very basic reason that they don't want shortages on supermarket shelves ie: to desperately prevent the very thing they said couldn't happen from in fact happening.
It's the right call, even if it is communicated in the most laughably misleading way. Just as it would have been the right call to extend transition so we weren't having to deal with this in the middle of a pandemic.
But I doubt that's of very much reassurance to a British exporter, facing full checks going into Europe, competing for another half a year against European companies facing no checks getting into the UK.
They've been utterly fucked by their government. And all for what? Because No.10 didn't think it politically convenient to extend transition.
