Former Bolivian dictator @JeanineAnez has just been arrested.
If you don't know her, let me fill you in on some of her crazier moments (thread)
1. Shes a hardline fundamentalist Christian who thinks the indigenous majority are "satanic" & shouldn't be allowed to live in cities.
2. Her party received just 4% of the vote in the 2019 election. The military hand picked her from obscurity to be president.
She arrived clutching an oversized leather bible announcing that Christ had returned to government.
3. She pre-exonerated all security forces of all crimes during the "restoration" of order. Everyone understod this to be a license to kill.
They immediately used it, carrying out a number of massacres.
4. Añez ruthlessly crushed dissent. Not only were protestors shot but medical workers (like these guys) who treated them were charged with sedition and other crimes
She forced all critical media off the air. Foreign journalists were kicked out, or, in one case, beaten to death by pro-coup forces.
7. With her rule failing, Añez attempted to force through a firesale of the Bolivian economy, privatizing the country, shock doctrine style, and trying to undo 15 years of progress.
Throughout it all, she had the total support of the US and of most of the media, many of whom portrayed her as a feminist icon (insert Eric Andre girl power meme).

George W Bush says that "this is how elections are disputed in banana republics."
He would know, he engineered a coup in Haiti in 2004, and attempted them in Venezuela in 2002 and plotted one in Palestine in 2006.
The man who lied us into the Iraq War with talk of non-existent weapons of mass destruction is apparently denouncing "falsehoods" spread by elected officials.
After Bush left office, the US was the most hated and feared country in the entire world, and considered the greatest threat to world peace.
"Worries" - from whom? The totally discredited far-right opposition?
"divisive"- Morales won landslide after landslide and is the most popular politician in Bolivia's history.
Yet he is "divisive" because he is disliked by the rich white elite that NYT journalists consort with
"Failed attempt to keep power" is a weird way of saying "won a landslide re-election in the first round then was kicked out in a US-backed fascist military coup," but ok, strong start.
As Minnesota's Chief Prosecutor, Amy Klobuchar pushed a "tough on crime" message. But she didn't prosecute George Floyd's killer Derek Chauvin when he shot someone.
I'm reading the insane contract Silvercorp and @jguaido signed for the #Venezuela coup. 🇻🇪
The operation was to capture, detain or 'remove' @maduro_en. This sounds awfully like a hit contract.
lol, Silvercorp charged Guaidó a quarter-billion dollars for potentially only one day's work yet they're still putting in traps trying to fleece the sucker even harder. How greedy can you get?
This seems pretty big: The contract seems to suggest Silvercorp was going to become a private death squad training up Venezuelan paramilitaries, a la Colombia, after the coup.
