It's been a week since I finished it, so time to share my thoughts on #Kirameiger, whether you want it or not.
TL;DR This is why Super Sentai is good.
It should be obvious by now that I love this show, but I will be the first to admit that it is not an extraordinary series by any means.
Like, you can make the case that Lupato and Ryusoulger tried a lot hard to be unique or push the boundaries of what Sentai can be.
That is not to say that they necessarily succeeded, but they had an ambition Kirameiger simply doesn't have.
But that is not a bad thing.
Kirameiger might be Sentai by the numbers, but it is clearly made by people who 'get' Super Sentai.
It is pretty clear that the people behind the camera were not only veterans, but they were also people who love Super Sentai, and you can absolutely feel that in the final product.
If want to know why people like Super Sentai at all, Kirameiger is the answer.
Kirameiger doesn't try to rewrite the rules of Sentai nor to bring it to the "new generations."
It merely took the classic formula and showed why it works in the first place.
It is not groundbreaking, but it is a lot of fun.
I you have watched Super Sentai before, there's hardly nothing here you haven't seen already.
But it is an experience crafted with a lot of heart by people who love Sentai, and sometimes that is enough.
To be honest, there are things it could have done better, but the show is crafted with so much care that the issues it does have hardly even matter in the long run.
It is not extraordinary in it's execution, but there's a level of consistency and quality you hardly ever see.
Off the top of my head, I cannot think of even a single episode that was bad.
Even at its lowest points, Kirameiger is just consistently good.
Honestly, the only other show I can think off that pulled that off is probably GoPuri.
Actually, that is an interesting comparison.
Both GoPuri and Kirameiger are shows that didn't try to revolutionize their series.
But they understood what makes them thick.
But yeah, Kirameiger is not going to blow your mind by any means, but it is an incredibly solid experience.
Like, I can honestly say that your average new Gen Ultra series is better than this, but they are not as consistent at delivering a fun experience.
Thinking about it, that is probably why Kirameiger is such an easy recommendation.
Like, if you want to show people the charm of Super Sentai, Kirameiger is easily one of the best examples.
It's just a really fun show that gets why Sentai works as a concept.
So yeah, I really liked Kirameiger.
I wouldn't say it dethroned any of my favorites, but it is a show that I just had fun with every single episode.
Anyways, peace out.
