Today's adventure before tomorrow's rain:
Page #SlowStreet
GGP
Great Highway
Lake Merced
Park Merced
Ingleside
City College
Mission Terrace
Glen Park
Mission
The @deyoungmuseum is open and @calacademy opens this week. I just renewed my membership. Support these extraordinary institutions. We're helping them expand access for staff and visitors
And @ParkwideBikes will rent your family bikes or a surrey
There's even delicious affordable food for a picnic
The magnolias may be past peak, but cherries are starting theirs
The eastern part of JFK is lovely. The western part is car-dominated. If you're on foot or wheels, cut over to Overlook at Transverse for a mostly car-free path all the way to the beach. The signs are tiny
Our crews are on track for completion of Outer Sunset traffic calming project, including new speed humps and raised crosswalks throughout area. Also N trains coming back in May sfmta.com/projects/great…
Yes @peterhartlaub the Riptide and White Cap are both open, and our L Taraval project worked hard to protect their @SharedSpacesSF
Yes and yes
I pride myself in knowing most streets and lanes in SF but Brookhaven is new. As is this fairy garden on Lakeshore
Lake Merced: Stunningly beautiful place. Rather terrifying to get to
Park Merced is weird but occasionally magical
Holloway is a level street that connects @sfstate and @OfficialCCSF. It's most-requested #SlowStreet in Ingleside and also primary emergency response. We're hoping to co-design with emergency svcs a street that works for people and fire trucks. Bonus: Beep's
.@OfficialCCSF unlocks access to opportunity, especially in a rapidly changing economy. Its beautiful campus also offers a secret bike route:
Lee
Cloud
Marston
Havelock
and across the Havelock Bridge
SF has an array of under-appreciated pedestrian bridges over the freeways. Havelock bridge connects @OfficialCCSF and Balboa Park
Havelock leads to Cayuga, whose curves follow Islais Creek running beneath. Cayuga connects to Lyell and Glen Park. Then San Jose or Arlington #SlowStreet gets you to Mission or Noe
I'm still surprised how well some of the #SlowStreets work:
Neighbors moving in
Independent kids
Joggers, bicyclists, skateboarders, wheelchair users
Others need help and we're developing a new toolkit to make them better
For the cost of 1 freeway mile, SF could have a citywide network of #SlowStreets + paths, welcoming people of all ages and abilities, and maintaining access + parking for those who must drive. Imagine if federal transport stimulus were aimed at people not pavement

In 1987 Bonnie Nelson had the audacity to believe that a private company could thrive by doing good in the world and treating its employees fairly. After 21 years, this is my last week at @NelsonNygaard
Transportation is the fastest, most effective way of changing the world—from mitigating climate change to improving public health and dismantling historical inequities. @NelsonNygaard was the best place to build my career, helping clients define and foster the public good
But it’s time to move from merely advising cities to serving the city I love most in all the world, and the only one that has ever felt like home. Next Monday I join the @sftma_muni
Just a few of my Privilege Subsidies for 2018:
Trump tax cut: $3,600
CA Prop 13 dividend: $17,820
Mortgage interest deduction: $7,309
Mortgage rate reduction: $13,558
Free car storage rent: $3,600
Total: $45,887 annual subsidy

I don't need $46K in government subsidies just for being an upper income, white, car-owning homeowner. So yes, this is my annual minimum for charitable contributions

Rather than subsidizing the privileged, what if we instead invested in creating opportunities for everyone? What if young people and newcomers had the same opportunities as the old and established?
