Just left #ReclaimTheseStreets vigil. I went to connect with women in our shared grief but it was ruined by men’s behaviour — the man who occupied stage with megaphone who wouldn’t leave, photographers + cameramen inches away, refusing to stop and chatting through minute silence.
At an event to honour murdered women and stand against male harassment and violence, men *still* managed to centre themselves, ignore our demands for space and boundaries, and ogle us as we cried and laid flowers. Staggered by the arrogance and disrespect. Just fucking grim.
That’s not even to mention the revolting behaviour of the @metpoliceuk, who had male officers strong-arming women off the bandstand while they were speaking. Totally needless, disproportionate escalation of a peaceful event. And especially maddening + foul given the circumstances

I posted this on my insta stories after being *flooded* with DMs asking me some very legit (and also some hairy af) questions about the Tory Immigration Bill survey.

Reproduced for you here, in a thread 🧵👇 My DMs are popping off! Here are some answers to questionsHow can folks trust me? You can’t for certain! But I have 8+ years of relevant professional experience. How do I know it’s not a real consultation? Well...Gov consultations are boring, long, formal, and hosted on gov.uk — not a political party website.
“How do you know it’s not a real consultation?” For example — remember when there was the gov consultation on the Gender Recognition Act; organisations like Stonewall had to help folks fill it out because it was so complicated. Also, the gov don’t need to consult on this — it has been read in parliament and passed with a big majority.Additionally, this is the Tory’s flagship policy — they’re doing a huge job of making sure people know they’ve successfully enacted a manifesto promise. That involves Facebook advertising. This is very normal practise — at Labour we would target people we thought would support us, to engage them, too. It’s just marketing.
“Surely this isn’t legal?!”
“Well I just wont use my real email address” Folks saying this must be illegal — why would it be? Targeting potential supporters on Facebook is standard marketing practise. They’ve not lied or done anything malicious.Nowhere does it say it’s a government consultation or that it’ll affect the Bill. Well intentioned activists have simply got this a bit wrong. We just need to be a bit more critical and slow down!If you want to do it anyway and sue fake details... Fine. But it’s a waste of time and it may be irresponsible to urge others to use the tool. For example, people could accept the cookies which means the Tories can then retarget them on social media. So maybe don’t keep sharing it.
