The discipline is more tied to math than commerce and will teach students about theories and models in statistics and programming

The interesting thing is that when it comes to Canadian Immigration, there is no pass or fail in IELTS.

The reason why people do it many times is to gain more points and increase their score.

CLB 7 is good for some, some need CLB 10... depending on other things in your profile.
The immigration system is point-based.

6 selection factors of language test, education level, work experience, age, having Canadian job offer, or having adaptability factors (i.e relative in Canada) are used

The more you have, the more your points (except for age when over 29) Image
As little as extra 0.5 in Listening, if you have 7.5 in Listening, and 7 in others can be the game-changer for you

The above is CLB 8 already, but if the listening alone moves to 8.0, that takes you CLB 9.

And guess what, that can give you over 50 additional immigration points.
