Unfortunately I can't attend #March4Justiceau today however these are the reasons #WhyIMarch (if I could) and why I signed the petition at march4justice.nationbuilder.com/?recruiter_id=… 1/
Because of my year 7 maths teacher who once called me up to the front of the classroom to demonstrate something by saying "come on, I want your body" which made me so ashamed that I was too sick to go to school the next day #WhyIMarch 2/
Because of my friend's private school mates who borrowed his phone to send me text messages about the size of my breasts #WhyIMarch 3/
Because when I was a 22 year old receptionist the CEO came over to talk to me, sat on my desk, and played with my hair #WhyIMarch 4/
Because of the man who, when I was walking back to work from the post office, drove beside me in his car trying to convince me to get in #WhyIMarch 5/
Because I still remember what I was wearing when that happened, even though it was over 15 years ago, as I felt the need to justify myself #WhyIMarch 6/
Because of the man who, when I was leaving a nightclub, grabbed my arm and tried to pull me down the stairs with him. In full view of security and multiple bystanders, all of whom did nothing to help #WhyIMarch 7/
Because of the man who pulled up near me on his motorbike while I was out for a walk and called out to get my attention so that he could show me his penis #WhyIMarch 8/
Because of the man who called out to me to get my attention while I was walking along the beach, so that he could show me his penis #WhyIMarch 9/
Because of a former boss who made sexual jokes & draped his arm around the back of women's chairs when looking at their computer. But I didn't feel I could talk to HR about it because he hadn't really done anything other than give off general creepy vibes #WhyIMarch 10/
Because when a former colleague posted a similar experience on LinkedIn asking for advice on what she should've done, I deleted my comment after a few seconds because I was looking for work at the time & didn't want potential employers to think I was oversensitive #WhyIMarch 11/
Because of my friend's husband who told me I should consider exotic dancing because I "have the body for it" #WhyIMarch 12/
Because of the man who, when I was walking home late at night from the station, yelled 'high-5' and put his hand out and I had to make a snap judgement whether it was safer to high-5 him and risk him grabbing my wrist, or piss him off by ignoring him #WhyIMarch 13/
Because my friends and I numerous times have had to rotate places on the dancefloor to avoid the guy trying to grind up against our backs #WhyIMarch 14/
Because I've had to change train carriages to get away from a man who was making my uncomfortable #WhyIMarch 15/
Because I had to move to seat further back and with a worse view at a concert because the man next to me started abusing me because he thought I wasn't being sufficiently friendly towards him #WhyIMarch 16/
Because I've missed networking events because I was uncomfortable getting public transport home alone at night and couldn't afford to pay for parking or a cab #WhyIMarch 17/
Because I don't necessarily feel safer in a taxi than on public transport anyway. Especially after having a driver insist I sit in the front and then quiz me about whether I have a partner #WhyIMarch 18/
Because my experiences are minor and "just" day-to-day things and are nothing compared to what many other women have been through #WhyIMarch 19/
Because I'm aware that I have it easier being a white woman and that indigenous, black and brown, disabled, and trans women, for example, have it much worse #WhyIMarch 20/
Because 1 in 3 women has experienced physical or sexual violence since age 15, and 1 in 4 by a current or former partner. Which means that whether you think you do or not, you probably know someone this has happened to #WhyIMarch 21/
Because 1 in 3 women has experienced physical or sexual violence since age 15, and 1 in 4 by a current or former partner. Which means that whether you think you do or not, you probably know someone who is a perpetrator. #WhyIMarch 22/
Because #EnoughIsEnough 23/
