Massive solidarity protest in Aden, as thousands of demonstrators marched on presidential palace

The marchers carried signs condemning recent attacks on peaceful protesters in Shabwa and Hadramaut. ImageImageImageImage
They also carried signs calling for payment of court mandated compensation to security forces who were forced into retirement in 1998 with no pensions. Many of these officers were among the demonstrators. ImageImageImage
The group of retired officers are the ones who started Hirak in 2007 and they have been waiting since 2014 for their back-pay. ImageImage

Here is a more complete report in English about the protests and shootings in Seiyun, Hadramaut. South24 is the best channel to follow for info of the STC in all southern regions. south24.net/news/news.php?…
Photos of women who organized the peaceful protest holding signs that call for lowering of fuel prices, payment of public employee salaries, raising of living standards. In other words, these are public economic demands from regular citizens. ImageImageImage
Old Pres. Ali Saleh & current VP Ali Muhsin always handled public resources in corrupt ways, using military/security forces to play dirty games, including sponsoring militant non-state actors while blaming the consequences on popular leaders who demand good government.

Reports say the Army in Wadi Hadramaut (First Military Region) shoots on peaceful protesters in Seiyun, injuring at least six people. The protests were called by a labor federation and women's group. The army is under control of VP Ali Muhsin al-Ahmar.
Aden Independent Channel blames the shooting on Islah/Muslim Brotherhood forces under VP Ali Muhsin's command.
Ali Muhsin was the northern "strongman" in old Saleh regime, distant family member of Saleh & member of Sanhan tribe of once dominant Hashid confederation. Since 2015, he has used military power & connections in Saudi Arabia to maintain control of all oil & gas fields in #Yemen.

Reports coming from #Yemen that Ansarullah forces continue assaulting Mareb, thus Houthi leaders prove once again what was known about their agenda. From the beginning in 2013-14, Houthis had larger strategic goals that depended upon military aggression, not peace talks.
Now there are new battles occurring on other fronts, not only west of Taiz and south of al-Hodeida, but north of Abs where coalition forces pushed south to cut off roads connecting the Red Sea coast to inland Hajja province.
In Mareb and Hajja, Saudi fighter aircraft are bombing Ansarullah forces on the ground. By advancing in Hajja and Taiz, Saudi Arabia and coalition forces might simply be trying to relieve pressure on Mareb by forcing Ansarullah to direct attention to the west.

Music lovers will enjoy this thread tracking one prominent example of the Middle Eastern roots of early 1960s California “surf rock.”
I think the significance of this is how it tracks an alternate line of rock’n roll’s development in the US. Typically, the origin is tracked from New Orleans jazz of Louie Armstrong thru the Delta blues of Robert Johnson to BB King and then the cross-over to Elvis.
This line of development is significant because it tracks thru Chuck Berry to eastern US rock, eg Little Richard, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, and then via Elvis, to the UK where the Beatles, the Stones, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton caught the wave.

When Saleh and family, including nephew Tareq Mohammad, appeared to recover control of #Yemen capital last Friday, his admirers, apologists immediately revived old praise for Saleh as a “smart” political survivor. This was most common view of Saleh in 1990s and 2000s. /1
But only in a country with dismally low standards of national politics would a leader like Saleh be praised as “smart.” In reality, Saleh practiced divide and rule politics that ruined any chance of unity in 1990s, while keeping Yemen mired in poverty. /2
Saleh always blamed poverty on someone else, rather than take responsibility himself. His record over the past six years, since 2011 Arab Spring, proved that he failed at every turn. Thus, there is no cause for admiring & apologizing for him. /3
