this is less a threat than it sounds like. mcconnell is essentially threatening to saddle his caucus with the most unpopular items in its agenda, which gets to how the filibuster is advantageous to the party that wants to hold power without doing anything.
mcconnell’s strategy when democrats are in the majority is to withhold all support for legislation and then ride the backlash to a do-nothing congress back to power. the filibuster is key in that it a) helps keep his caucus together and b) helps avoid unpopular votes
on the first point, 60 votes for legislation is an almost impossible threshold to meet in this age of partisanship. when there is little chance a bill will pass, there’s no reason for a republican member to risk crossing the aisle for an amendment or anything else.
and on the second point, when you are in the majority, you can just point to the filibuster to explain to donors and affiliated interest groups why you aren’t doing what you promised.

bribing members of congress with spending to help their districts — or even on pet projects — is good. it helps make politics concrete, and connects elections to outcomes.
rubio’s support here basically seems like a one-off for this particular group of workers against this particular company news.yahoo.com/marco-rubio-si…
this does not sound like someone who believes labor needs a greater share of economic and political power.
“unrelated pension bailout” is how rubio describes a provision that would save retirement funds for millions of the workers rubio claims to support
someone please remind sen. scott that around 164 people were lynched in south carolina during the jim crow era, several of them within living memory statehousereport.com/2015/02/12/164…
hell we’re not even six full years removed from when an actual white supremacist murdered 9 people in charleston
enterprising companies should take note. all you have to do to generate a wave of sales is to announce a decision to take some nostalgia item out of circulation, hire some people to drum up “cancel culture” outrage, and watch the dollars pour in
