Spoke in Lok Sabha to oppose the Demand for Grants of Ministry of Education because there have been no steps in 6 years to improve the state of education for Muslim minorities or to reduce their drop out rate. The literacy rate of Muslims is 68.5% vs the national rate 74.04% 1/n
Muslim female literacy rate is 62% vs overall rate of 65.44%. @EduMinOfIndia data says that Muslim enrolment in primary & higher education is only 13.14%. #AISHE says that there are only 19.5 lakh Muslims in higher education. This is only 5.23% of total enrolment 2/n
|@PMOIndia patronisingly wanted to give Qur'an in one hand & computer in another to Muslims. But 2018-19 data says only 16% Muslim households have computers which is 2nd lowest. Only 32% households have internet also the 2nd lowest, only 38% have ability to operate a computer 3/n
The Kundu Committee report identified that Muslims have the highest drop out rate & financial constraints was the biggest factor for it. I'd demanded that the 600cr for Haj subsidy should be abolished & used to educate Muslim girls. That didn't happen 4/n
The report also recognised that the age of 7, there is 100% attendance observed for all minorities, Hindu OBCs and Upper Castes. But for Muslims that number is 90% and for SCs & STs it is 94%. Drop out rate for Muslim, SC, ST kids starts at age 10, for others it starts at 11 5/n
This data proves that Ministry has failed to uplift Muslims. Let us also not forget the issue of AMU Campus in Kishanganj, Bihar, which is located in India's most backward region, #Seemanchal. The B.Ed degree course there has not received affiliation from NCTE till now 6/n
I demand that govt allocate 500 cr to start new courses at AMU Kishanganj. People of Seemanchal are in dire need of quality educational institutions. Also, why was #JamiaMilliaIslamia not listed as an Institute of Eminence? Why such bias? 7/n
I condemn the efforts being made to force homogeneity through the #NationalEducationPolicy. Our country's beauty is in its heterogeneous character. The Policy says nothing about promotion of Urdu, it has no strategies to address the high drop out rate of Muslims 8/n
Out of @EduMinOfIndia's total budget, 44000 cr is from Education Cess & 4800cr from National Investment Fund. Basically the fate of allocation for education depends on cess collections & disinvestment proceeds. If tomorrow these collections/proceeds come down, who'll suffer? 9/n
The total expenditure on education as part of the total budget in 2015 was 3.8%, it has now come down to 2.7%. This is the seriousness that the govt has towards education. 10/n
Under National Institute of Open Schools, there's a proposal to teach Ramayana & Gita. There's no objection to this. But why not Qur'an Bible & Guru Granth Sahib? Also would this not violate Article 28 which bars religious instruction in state run institutions? 11/n
Why is there such disregard for India's diversity? Every effort is made to bring in Hindutva ideology into education

Government MUST make scholarships for minorities demand driven. Every applicant must get scholarship. Depriving 1cr kids of scholarship is not acceptable n/n

Our MANY traditions are already celebrated & we're also recognised for our modern achievements: being one of only former colonies that's striven to be secular republic despite men like him. Sangh is allergic to secularism because it wants us to be seen as a majoritarian state1/n
Secularism is part of Basic Structure of Constitution. It's reflected in various parts of Constitution. “Liberty of thought belief faith & worship” is part of Preamble, as are fraternity & equality. Articles 14 19 22 25, 26, 29 & 30 are all reflection of our secular tradition 2/n
Sangh speaks of secularism with a forked tongue. On odd days they say that India is secular because majority of Indians are secular. On even days they say that secularism has prevented global recognition of our traditions. We're secular because of our Constitution 3/n

THREAD showing @DelhiPolice's "impartiality" & professionalism in investigating Delhi pogrom of 2020. An Order dated 8.07.2020 advised officers to take “due care and precaution” to avoid “Hindu resentment” while making arrests. 1/n

magazine.outlookindia.com/story/india-ne…
Of nearly 1750 people arrested in connection with the pogrom, over half are Muslim even though they were affected disproportionately. In @DelhiPolice charge sheets, almost 70% name Muslims as perpetrators, even in cases when only Muslims were victims. 2/n theguardian.com/world/2021/feb…
Sole breadwinner Faizan charged under draconian UAPA for crime of selling SIM card. Spent months in jail, lost his job, his family stricken with panic, fear & social stigma. @DelhiPolice was so "impartial" that Delhi HC saw no option but to grant bail thequint.com/news/india/del… 3/n

Spoke in #LokSabha in response to President's Address

@PMOIndia is hesitant & afraid of even uttering CHINA's name? [1/n]
After 45 years China killed 20 of our soldiers & govt has insulted their supreme sacrifice. India cannot even patrol at the place where they were killed. China has occupied our territory in Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh & Sikkim and @PMOIndia is afraid of even raising the issue 2/n
#मैं_आंदोलनजीवी_हूँ & I'm proud of it. Instead of constructing defensive border infrastructure in Arunachal, Sikkim & Ladakh, the govt has built it in #Singhu, #Ghazipur & #Tikri. Treatment ideally meant for Chinese soldiers is being meted out on protesting Indian farmers 3/n

THREAD: One can choose to worship
-One god
-1000 gods
-no god
One can reject their faith of birth & adopt a new one.

This is LIBERTY of THOUGHT, EXPRESSION, BELIEF & FAITH that Constitution gives everyone. This Ordinance takes away this liberty & says 'aise kaise?!' [1/n]
Before we go on, remember that conversion does not mean that one stops being an Indian citizen or that they become 'lesser' Indians for some reason. This law thinks that freedom of religion is antithetical to India's identity, which'd be funny if it weren't dangerous [2/n]
The Ordinance defines mass conversion as 'two or more people converting', which means if spouses convert together it is a crime. This is a picture of Babasaheb at Deekshabhoomi, leading conversion of a 'mass' from Hinduism to Buddhism. The Ordinance makes this a crime [3/n]

#HyderabadRains I've personally seen the devastation that the deluge has caused to people in Hyderabad Parliament Constituency & Rajendernagar. People have lost their life savings, they've also lost essential all household items: stoves, clothes, utensils @TelanganaCMO [1]
I urge @TelanganaCMO to help these families get back on their feet. They're in distress & need urgent relief. According to GO MS 2 of 2015, houses that have suffered serious/partial damage are entitled to 95,100 rupees. 75% of this amount is to come from Govt of India [2]
In GHMC & its adjoining municipalities, the destruction due to flash-floods has been total. It is essential that the relief is given immediately. I understand that the State's finances are in a difficult situation due to the Centre's refusal to pay GST compensation [3]
