The US National Intelligence Council report on foreign threats to the 2020 US elections are not surprising, but quite a bombshell. Its essence is that Putin himself and the Kremlin worked hard for Trump.

2. "We assess that Russian President Putin authorized, and a range of Russian government organizations conducted, influence operations aimed at denigrating President Biden's candidacy and the Democratic Party, supporting former President Trump..."
3. "Moscow's strategy this election cycle was its use of proxies linked to Russian intelligence to push influence narratives - including misleading or unsubstantiated allegations against President Biden..."
4. The report names two of the Russian intelligence operatives, Ukrainian MP Andriy Derkach (sanctioned by the US) & Konstantin Kilimnik, Paul Manafort's righthand man since 2005. The US has sanctioned several others (January 11). Please tell us more!
5. The three big US names that are obvious because of the connections, but not mentioned (apart from Trump) are Paul Manafort, Rudolph Giuliani & Roger Stone. Are there treason cases brewing against them? There should be! Treason must not be accepted!
6. The unspoken essence is that Trump & his assistants- Barr, Rattcliffe, Nunes, etc worked for the Kremlin. Is US law enforcement able to handle this? I doubt it but would be happy to be proven wrong.

Secretary of State @ABlinken's outstanding speech on March 3 has received far too little attention, perhaps because it is too sound & principled. The first principles are obvious: US leadership and international cooperation.

But then it comes: "we will renew democracy, because it's under threat" (at home and abroad). "Corruption is growing." "We don't ignore our failures and shortcomings or try to sweep them under the rug and pretend they don't exist. We confront them..."
Blinken: "Because strong democracies are more stable, more open, better partners to us, more committed to human rights, less prone to conflict, and more dependable for our goods and services. When democracies are weak, governments can't deliver for the people."

What surprises me about the US is the abject absence of any morals.
How can Trump even be a public person?
He instigated a coup against the US.
He is blatantly anti-democratic.
He praises dictators (Al-Sissi: "My favorite dictator")
He opposes the freedom of the press.
He refused to accept his obvious loss in the elections.
He opposes any public health care (against Obama Care without any proposed alternative).
His tax giveaway was entirely to the rich (himself & his donors).
He favored Putin over Merkel & NATO.
His daughter & son-in-law made up to $640 million while in the White House unknown how.
He persisted in driving government expenditures to his own companies.
He never showed his tax returns or his foreign incomes.
How could the US ever tolerate such a lowlife?
& GOP today?

Nord Stream 2: Why does Russia insist on building this gas pipeline from St. Petersburg to Germany through the Baltic Sea?
1. To cut out Ukraine so that Russia can freely bomb it (geopolitics)
2. Corruption: to pay off Putin's friends Timchenko, Rotenbergs & Schröder.
= Awful!
2. There is no demand for more Russian gas from Europe. Russian gas exports to the EU27 peaked at 168 billion cubic meters in 2019. It might reach 135 bcm this year & then fall, as Europe is the champion of green energy & energy savings.
3. Russia has a massive overcapacity of gas pipelines to Europe. The expected exports this year is 135 bcm. The well-functioning Ukrainian system can transit 160 bcm, the Polish-Belarusian 33 bcm, Nord Stream 1: 55 bcm & Turk Stream 31.5 bcm, more than 100% overcapacity.

@JoeBiden has already put out an Interim National Security Strategic Guidance. It is a nice well-structured read. While brief, it is substantial & consistent with prior policy statements. The key phrases are democracy and building back better.

2. The world is presented as receding democracies in need of repair in a "growing rivalry with China, Russia, and other authoritarian states." China (named 15 times) "has rapidly become more assertive," while Russia ( 5 times) plays "a disruptive role on the world stage.
3. Iran, North Korea and terrorists in the Middle East are mentioned, they are downplayed. Many countries are mentioned, but none in Eastern Europe - not a word about Ukraine, Belarus, etc. Europe is discussed as one entity & the UK is just about mentioned as an ally.

A few words about my long-time late friend Boris Nemtsov on the 6th anniversary of the Kremlin murder of him. More than any Russian before him, he was a truly Western politician. He listened to all & always ready to discuss. He spoke so that people understood.
Boris was a true liberal & democrat. His great aspiration was that Russia should become a member of the European Union & he often mentioned a Russian opinion poll in the 1990s in which one-third of Russians expressed their desire that Russia would become a member of the EU.
Few were as charming as humoristic as Boris Nemtsov. He could charm and entertain any audience & he loved life & being among people. His courage was unlimited, but not foolish. He acted courageously to achieve political effect, and he did.
