I keep thinking about how, after Kenney became UCP leader and got his seat, he pontificated about ‘getting beyond some of the high school-level name calling that's come to characterize our politics recently’ and how he wanted ‘to strike a more stately tone’ in the #ableg 1/5
He wanted, he said, to ‘raise the bar of decorum’. I watched a few minutes of today’s afternoon session and the snide, juvenile, disrespectful, arrogant, and tediously inappropriate rants, diatribes and performances of UCP were an absolute disgrace. Kenney led the way 2/5
They will not answer questions. They act like it is an affront for anyone to want to know more about how they are spending our money, how they will pay for things they have promised, what their plans are for us, etc. You know—their job. 3/5
And so ANY question they are asked they either ineptly read prepared talking points off a paper, pivot to insulting Trudeau, or Edmonton socialists or whoever else, play the victim, mansplain, or enumerate ways in which nothing is their fault. When they aren’t flat out lying. 4/5
I can see the exasperation of the opposition members, who are trying to have important, adult discussions about things that affect all of us with whiny, petulant babies. All Albertans deserve better than this. UCP fails utterly at decorum & fails even more at doing their job. 5/5

In the #ableg right now, Rachel Notley is pointing out Kenney’s many lies and half-truths about how many jobs will actually be created here. Kenney’s typical ‘NDP is cheering against Alberta’.
Kenney is such a ridiculous parody of himself. His arguments are laughable. Rachel Notley “When it comes to job killing, these guys don’t need advice from anybody.”
NDP is pressing UCP on whether there is an ‘actual plan to create jobs’. Kenney keeps saying that there are various companies like Infosys and Rogers intend to create 100s of jobs. That is not a ‘plan’ though.

In one of the only sightings of her since Christmas, the education minister appeared today to deny that the NWT is considering dropping the Alberta curriculum they use due to UCP’s new update. She says it’s merely a totally normal review process the NWT does all the time. 1/5
And, of course, she blames NDP for this news coming out. NWT does review every 5 years. However, a news release from the NWT contradicts much of what else she said. 2/5

A few highlights from the linked article:
“A pair of education leaders in the Beaufort Delta say a political shift in what is taught in Alberta classrooms is behind a curriculum review underway at the GNWT” 3/5

Covid update delayed today. You know what that means:
-Shandro & /or Kenney appearance
-last minute scramble to cover up bad news/rationalize irrational decisions
-look up synonyms for ‘concerning’ in the thesaurus.
-Now that #ableg library is closed, stick with ‘concerning’
One thing for sure, however late they may be, it’s never late enough. It’s always important to emphasize disdain for Albertans. Their time is more important.
Luckily, I have a fast and easy to make dinner for this evening: Bucatini a l’Amatriciana ! Yum!

We will have both Kenney & Shandro as special guests for the covid update. That means that even though this is starting late, it will be later. Also we’ll get to hear it all twice—Shandro’s specialty.
Yup. Pushing ahead. Kenney is touting Alberta’s ‘tremendous’ progress’. Emphasis on hospital and case numbers. Encouraging data, Kenney says. The vaccinations have had a ‘huge impact’ he says. (Already?)
Indoor fitness and libraries will have targeted restrictions eased, but a delay for the hotels and conference centres due to the testing positivity rates.

If you hate what UCP is doing and has done to Alberta, imagine if like-minded individuals were also in control of your town or city and the school board where your kids attend. Imagine the priorities, the cuts and the deceit. Pay close attention to upcoming local elections.
Bill 29, or the ‘Local Authorities Election Act’ was orchestrated so that UCP can have their rich donors anonymously contribute $5000 to an unlimited number of candidates they have selected.

alberta.ca/local-election…
Candidates do not have to disclose where their funding came from until after the election. This is a huge red flag. If any candidate refuses to say or pretends not to know where their $ support came from, the non-answer is an answer.

I’ve been angry and anxious before & after provincial budgets lots of times. Klein slashing and burning everything. Disappointed in Redford. That kind of thing. Having made a career in public service, you kind of become inured to the idea that while politicians may ‘say’ 1/9
they value what you do, the electorate here wants all the service for none of the cost. That’s exactly what Prentice meant when he said ‘Look in the mirror’ back in 2015. It’s tiresome hearing how anyone in the public service is paid too much and all deficits should always 2/9
be made up by going after our paycheques, as if we’re nothing but a drain on the province. Never mind that our $$$ are in the economy, that we buy goods and services too, and we provide essential services. You get resigned, but used to it after decades of the same rhetoric. 3/9
