EXCLUSIVE: How @MBuhari stopped Monguno’s $2.5bn arms deal with Dubai merchants | TheCable bit.ly/38SV9em
President @MBuhari withdrew an approval for Babagana Monguno, the national security adviser (NSA), to buy arms worth $2.51 billion from UAE in 2017 because the would-be suppliers are commission agents, TheCable can report.
.@MBuhari’s withdrawal of consent came after Abba Kyari, the late chief of staff, pointed out anomalies in the contract signed by Monguno on March 27, 2017 with the International Golden Group (IGG), the Abu Dhabi-based arms suppliers.
Also, following a N14 billion mark-up in an equipment purchase contract for the police by the office of the NSA in 2019, @MBuhari directed that henceforth, only the ministry of police affairs and the ministry of defence should be involved in arms procurement.
This effectively ended the involvement of the office of NSA in the process, a development believed to have affected his relationship with the president and service chiefs.

OPINION BY SIMON KOLAWOLE: Nigerian politicians and their gunmen | TheCable bit.ly/3cctiqn
.@simonkolawole: In my article, ‘A Nation Surrounded by Gunmen’ (February 28, 2021), I lamented that the political authorities are making it difficult for the security agencies to tackle insecurity because of their coded messages.
After reading the article, a retired police commissioner gave me a call. He emphasised just one thing from my article: “Nobody wants to be sacked.” By the time we ended our long conversation, I was totally downcast.

OPINION BY FREDRICK NWABUFO:
Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba must surrender ethnic identities to Nigeria | TheCable thecable.ng/igbo-hausa-yor…
@FredrickNwabufo: We need to build a Nigerian identity. All ethnic nationalities must surrender their individual identities to a Nigerian identity. Like it is in Rwanda, it can happen in our country.
We, the Igbo, the Hausa, the Yoruba, the Fulani, the Ijaw, the Esan, the Urhobo – and all other ethnic nationalities -- should surrender our ethnic identities to the Nigerian identity.

OPINION BY SIMON KOLAWOLE:
What #EndSARS mayhem tells us about Nigeria | TheCable bit.ly/2HKnsBv
.@simonkolawole: In an article published on July 7, 2008, “One Day, the People Will Rebel”, I did warn our leaders that Nigerians would take to the streets one day if they would not change their ways.
In another article, “Whatsoever a Man Soweth” — published on May 12, 2019 — I resurrected the warning, adding: “We have sown the wind and we are reaping the whirlwind. The teens and teenagers that we refused to care for yesterday have become our nemesis today.

Conflict in a Pandemic (II): The deserted villages of Southern Kaduna where only the brave dare reside | TheCable bit.ly/2GHHJXa

@elrufai @GovKaduna

#ConflictInPandemic #SouthKadunaChildren
Abandoned homes, deserted compounds and desolate communities are, nowadays, common scenes in parts of southern Kaduna. Insecurity-fuelled fear has forced many residents — mostly women and children — to find abodes in saner climes.

#ConflictInPandemic
In many of the attacked communities, only courageous men dare stay back and spend the night. Every man has now become a vigilante while their wives and children are scattered across the safe(r) parts of Kaduna.

OPINION BY FREDRICK NWABUFO: The cure for the SARS affliction is SARS | TheCable bit.ly/34pOmFY Image
.@FredrickNwabufo: It is clear as we advocate the amputation of the gangrenous SARS, we must push our luck further by insisting on a purge of the entire police. Our police force is in dire need of vacuuming.
thecable.ng/the-cure-for-t…
.@FredrickNwabufo: The septic characters in the security agency are a bigger problem than the unit upon which they traffic in perfidy. So, if we eliminate SARS without expelling the rotten eggs, we are only deodorising a ghastly matter.
