Yesterday's @GovRonDeSantis roundtable underscored for me why our founders gave us a constitution that limits the powers of government (no pandemic exception).

It was clear that the governor is fully on Team Reality, so why are masks required in much of Florida?

1/5
It's obviously better to have decisions on restrictions made by elected officials instead of unelected officials, but elected pols always have to be thinking about the next election and not losing the middle.

2/5
Our current situation is that the media and people like Fauci have made the middle scared and have convinced them that masks are our way out. So an elected pol hesitates to go against the beliefs of the people, regardless of what he knows to be true.

3/5
This is exactly why government should never be permitted to impose the restrictions we've seen during COVID. Before COVID, nobody would have argued that your doctor's advice should be law, but that's what we've done - made the advice of specific people into law.

4/5
Before COVID, public health acknowledged that the best path was to put out recommendations and trust people to make decisions for themselves and their families because only the people affected can weigh the benefits and costs.

We must never let this happen again.
