Part 2 of PLA recruitment video for Shanghai. The lyrics recalls famous ancient Chinese statesmen, generals and poets. Seems to be targeted at College grads.
I will break down the historical references in lyrics in below thread for non-Chinese speakers

lyrics refers 2 1 of the most famous Chinese poem 人生自古誰無死，留取丹心照汗青 by Song minister 文天祥 who wrote in 1278 while held captive on Yuan Dynasty warship near today's HK.
"Everyone dies, my Loyal ❤️will light up history books" He refused 2 surrender 2 Kublai Khan

封狼居胥 refers to 119BC Han general Huo Qubing led expedition agst nomadic Xiongnu Empire, scoring a great victory, he carved his deeds onto the rocks of Khentii Mountains in Mongolia

醉里挑灯看剑 gazing upon sword under lamp light while drunk refers to the famous poem by Song Dynasty poet and general Xin Qiji 辛棄疾 (1140-1207) who led uprising agst Jurchen elite who occupied N China. He was named after Han Dyn general 霍去病 Huo Qubing who rode agst Xiongnu

reference to famous poem by Song dynasty general Yue Fei (1103–1142) who defeated Jin invasion of S China: 怒发冲冠，凭栏处，潚潚雨歇...三十功名尘与土，八千里路云和月

Ancient Chinese literati and today's Chinese high school grad will know the poems and understood the historical references. In contrast US military recruitment video base on video games because that's what their target audience understand.

Remembering the time when CIA collaborated w Taiwan intelligence to assassinate Zhou Enlai on his way to Bandung conference in Indonesia by blowing up his ride Air India’s Princess Kashmir over South China Sea in 1955. Zhou had emergency appendectomy, missed the flight. 16 died.

Bandung Conference aka Asian–African Conference organized by Indonesian President Sukarno, Indian PM Nehru and Zhou Enlai and the prospect of a coalition of newly independent states of the Global South freaked out US planners that they did everything in their power to sabotage it

Bandung Conference 1955 led the way to Non-Aligned Movement. But 1962 Sino-Indian War as result of increasing tension frm CIA sponsored 1959 Tibetan Revolt, and US backed coup overthrowing Sukarno in Indonesia in 1965 would damp the spirit of Bandung.

Americans have been killing Asians in and out of US for over a century. American boys have been repeatedly sent over across Pacific where they raped, brutalized and harass Asian women then demean them as sexualized objects. Even anti-war movie Full Metal Jacket popularized dis👇

US occupation of Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Philippines spawn entire sex industry catering to American GIs. GI on R&R frm Vietnam War kicked off Thailand's sex tourism industry. This only made American males feel entitled to Asian women's bodies

While American men hypersexualize and fetish Asian women, Asian men are emasculated in American culture. Both Asian men and women caricatured and made fun of. It remains acceptable in US to make Asian jokes in public because there's virtually no consequences

Japanese nurses in Chinese People’s Liberation Army.

After Japanese surrender in 1945, 30k Japanese left in Manchuria joined Chinese Communist forces as doctors, nurses and technicians. PLA employed more than 7,200 Japanese medical personnels during the Chinese Civil War.

Japanese nurse 加藤昭江 joined People’s Liberation Army in Benxi, Liaoning on Nov, 1945. Age 17. Returned to Japan in 1958. She helped set up China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing in 1980s. Passed away in June, 2019, Age 91.

砂原惠 the only Japanese member of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army to have fought Korean War because he joined PLA in 1948 as a Chinese person!

Japanese PLA were prevented frm participating in Korean War but nobody knew he was Japanese at the time til 1953 his Mom passed
