Someone invites you to be the trustee of an org and you accept with glee thinking it's a prestige position. I laugh in Itsekiri😂. What you don't know is that you're being setup to be held accountable & responsible for the actions of the org. Think am well O before you say Yes O!
If that organisation is being dragged to court, it is your name that will be on the court summons. If the government has an issue with the activities of the organisation, it is you they will call not the founder or GO or Imam. You hold by law the Fiduciary responsibilities.
So before you say YES!

1. Ask Questions. What are the objects of this organisation? How will it be funded? Who are the likely funders? Who are the members?

2. Request for documents. e.g. the draft Constitution, agreements etc. What you're doing is matching answers to documents
3. Do your own KYC. Know Your Co-Trustees. Know the founder. Know their antecedents. Do your own investigation and be comfortable with them.

4. Prepare a letter of undertaking for the founder to sign that the information made available to you is accurate and of no illegal intent
At any point in the process, if you are not comfortable with the information provided, do not hesitate to respectfully decline.

If already a trustee, know that you bear no personal liability for the actions of the organisation. The org must bear all legal cost incurred.

Dealing with fear (7)

‘God has not given us a spirit of fear.’
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
1. During the American Revolution, Spain gained control of the Bahamas. In April of 1783, Andrew Deveaux, a LT Colonel from South Carolina, recruited a handful of militiamen and Harbour Island settlers to retake Nassau using a clever strategy. Deveaux had only 200 men with him,..
2...a far smaller force than that of the Spanish, but he managed to capture the high ground on the island after a brief skirmish. The Spaniards then watched as boats repeatedly ferried load after load of men from Deveaux’s ships to his defensive position on the shore.

Dealing with fear (6)

‘What I dreaded has happened to me.’
Job 3:25 NKJV
1. Do you ever fantasise about solutions to problems you fear may or will come your way? Ironically, when you do, what started out as an unfounded fear can turn into a real problem because you expended energy on wasteful thinking instead of productive action. Joe Tye, author of..
2..Never Fear, Never Quit, says: ‘Wishful thinking is the lock that fear puts on the prison gate. Fear lets you indulge yourself, for a while, in flights of wishful thinking. Somehow, u think, something will happen to make the problem go away. By the time u wake up, it’s too late

Dealing with fear (5)

‘The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?’
Psalm 27:1 NKJV
1. An old adage says, ‘Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.’ It exaggerates the problem, and as a result, you expend valuable energy in ways you shouldn’t. For example, sometimes you avoid things that can’t really harm you at all. Like the man who returned to his holiday cabin
2...from a hike, badly scratched and bruised. ‘What happened?’ his wife asked. ‘I met a snake on the trail,’ he answered. ‘Don’t you remember,’ his wife responded, ‘the park ranger told us yesterday that none of the snakes up here are poisonous?’ Her husband replied, ‘They don’t

Accountability Vs Transparency.

Accountability is what is demanded of you either by law or constitution to members of your organisation, shareholders, donors and/or the tax authorities. It's a mandatory obligation.

Transparency on the other hand is not obligatory nor mandatory.
Transparency is going the extramile to reveal details of your accountability beyond the scope of those you're obligated to. You can't claim to be transparent when your records are only visible to those you're obligated to be accountable to. You only do, when u go beyond the scope
It has become a thing to use the buzz words Accountability & Transparency. But if your records are only visible to those you're obligated to, then you're not Transparent. You're only accountable. But if you go beyond the veil, to make it widely available, then you're Transparent.

In praise of Mums!

‘Her children respect and bless her.’
Proverbs 31:28 MSG
1. Throughout history poets and orators have been lavish in their praise of motherhood. George Washington said, ‘My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am, I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education
2...I received from her.’ Abraham Lincoln wrote, ‘My mother’s prayers…have always followed me. They’ve clung to me all my life.’ And Charles Haddon Spurgeon said, ‘I cannot tell you how much I owe to the solemn word of my good mother.’ Centuries ago, people worshipped at their..

The day I found out that the impertinent, and insulting character I had been engaging on Twitter (who once threatened to beat me up) was someone I was old enough to be his father was my independence day on this platform. I became deliberate in setting up my rules of engagement.
For me, the bottom line is this. Be respectful and dignified in your engagements. Even if you disagree, do it with due respect and regard for the other person. You don't have to like me to respect me. I have earned your respect just by being human and more if I am older than you.
If we treat people with respect on this platform, engagements will be better, debates will be richer, peace will be more assured and social capital will increase. When we don't, the results are evident. Just look around your TL and your community and you will know the results.
