THREAD: Tucker Carlson is once again pushing the debunked conspiracy that COVID-19 was genetically engineered in a lab, and airing claims that the pandemic was intentionally released by China, using a dubiously souced "study" linked to Steve Bannon.
On September 14th, Li-Meng Yan, a researcher who fled Hong Kong, posted a paper claiming that she and other researchers had found a way to recreate SARS-CoV-2 in a lab. The paper drew the interest of conservative media and Tucker Carlson. zenodo.org/record/4028830…
During the segment Yan claimed that the virus was intentinally created in a lab by the Chinese and is not a naturally occuring virus. Despite ever increasing evidence that this claim is false, Tucker did not raise objections or make an attempt to push back on the claim
Here’s an ongoing thread of Fox News personalities excusing, deceptively framing, and omitting information regarding the Kenosha shooting and the murder of protestors.
Right wing media has been hyping the possibility of “patriots” taking up arms and “defending themselves“ against protestors for weeks now, it was only a matter of time before people died and you can bet your ass they’ll blame everyone but the shooter.
The amount of times “leftists are self destructive” turns out to mean “leftist women should keep their discomfort with electing sexual predators to themselves” is too high 🙃
Misogyny and cultures of abuse don’t reset when a man reaches a life milestone, be it turning 18, 21, marriage, running for office, promotions, parenthood etc. Passing those milestones without accountability/consequences tends to reinforce the idea that misogyny is no biggie.
So as long as things like:
“He was young”
“He was early in his career”
“He’s a father now, it’s different”
keep getting used to excuse abuse, boys who grow into men will continue to think that there are built in expiration dates on the trauma they inflict on women.
Tucker Carlson says if we don't stop the "demographic shift" of the country we will return to the "broke, dirty, and dangerous" cities of "50 years ago"
This is an interesting twist on his usual "demographic shift" screeds (usually about immigration) he's essentially saying BLM protesters are forcing wealthy, implied whites, to flee cities, Tucker's conception of society is one where upper-class whites are an anchor of stability.
One thing ive had on my mind is how hard Fox and RWM are pushing to conflate a “crime wave” with this summer’s protests when really any rise in crime is more likely to do with the double digit unemployment and will likely get worse with the upcoming tsunami of evictions.
The solution to this is not “flood the streets with cops” it’s passing really basic protections that would act as a safety net and keep people stable but our “leaders” are too afraid of being called commies or actively trying hard to strip the meager protections already in place.
We’re already seeing it but on the other side of this there will be a massive revival on “tough on crime” attitudes, the rhetoric around protests will likely be used to crack down on offenses that become more common in an economic crisis, when ones survival is at stake.
