There have been repeated instances where official BJP and government handles have wrongly used photographs to make or support their claims. Here are a few examples. Thread. 1/n
The woman featured as a beneficiary of PMAY in BJP advertisement lives in a rented house and didn’t receive a house under the scheme. newslaundry.com/2021/03/22/thi… 2/n
A few months ago, BJP Punjab used a picture of a farmer protesting at Singhu border against new farm laws in a poster to defend new farm laws. 3/n
Permission for using photographs has repeatedly been a problematic topic. Coal ministry once plagiarized a photograph from an Amnesty India report to show development whereas the original context of the image was to show exploitation. 4/n altnews.in/irony-alert-co…
Back in 2017, AltNews had found that the image of floodlights along the India-Pakistan border in the Annual report of Ministry of Home Affairs was actually a picture of lights along the Spain Morocco border. 5/n altnews.in/home-ministry-…
Around the same time it was found that Ministry of Roads had used images from US and Canada on its parivahan website. India has a massive road network of 5 million+ kms, but the govt couldn’t find a pic of an Indian road to use on its website. 6/n altnews.in/union-ministry…
BJP posters have routinely used any picture that looks good as their own. A picture of Motorway A2 of Poland was used in a poster by the official Twitter account of BJP to show road projects under Modi government. 7/n
In 2018, the Mayor of Ahmedabad tweeted a picture from Seoul as Sabarmati riverfront. 8/n altnews.in/ahmedabad-mayo…
Earlier that year BJP Chhattisgarh had used images from Gujarat and Canada to showcase improved highways 9/n altnews.in/bjp-chhattisga…
Akhilesh Mishra, a former director of MyGov under Modi Government once tweeted a picture of Guangzhou, China, claiming it is Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). 10/n
BJP Delhi passed off the photo of a Canadian street to show replacement of street lights by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation. 11/n financialexpress.com/india-news/bjp…
Then we have altered pictures...BJP ruled South Delhi Municipal corporation once submitted a photoshopped image to a court showing roads and pavements in Dwarka wiped digitally clean to claim they had acted upon complaints by residents about poor civic facilities 12/n
PIB had famously tweeted a photoshopped picture to show PM Modi doing an aerial survey of the Chennai floods. When caught they said they used the technique of ‘merging’ two pictures which media is calling ‘photoshopping’ 13/n
Is it really that difficult to understand that photographs used must be genuine (unless specifically mentioned as representative) and must have the necessary permissions in place? Why this repeated misuse? 14/14

My aunt passed away many years ago. Among her belongings was an old album that she was very fond of. The album remained lost for many years, buried somewhere in a storeroom in the basement. It was found again recently during a clean-up. 1/n
As a young girl growing up in a small town in 1950s and 60s, she was completely enamored by movies. Much to the disapproval of her mother, she spent her free time writing fan mail to movie stars and over a time, built up quite a collection of autographed pictures and letters. 2/n
Sadly, most of it is now in a bad shape but I managed to salvage a few that I am posting in this thread. I’m sure she would have loved to show off her collection. So, here it is... 3/n

It is so wonderful for a young poet to find that her work has been shared by a superstar but it’s unimaginable that he won’t give her credit even after she points it out to him. It has been nearly three days and @SrBachchan has not acknowledged @TishaAgarwal14’s poem. 1/n
In 2017, Kumar Vishwas had made a tribute video on legendary poets in which he included Mr. Bachchan’s father’s poem. When it was shared with him, this was his response. 2/n👇
He went on to send a legal notice to Vishwas for copyright infringement and unauthorised use of the poem. He also asked for an account of the revenue generated from the video. 3/n hindustantimes.com/bollywood/amit…
