the reactions to this thread, which btw I fully stand by, prove my main critique of @ggreenwald's conception of politics: that the "liberal-left" is too weak to accomplishment anything re opposing power centers, ergo we must ally w/ the "populist right"

I believe that as a consequence of adopting this faulty and fundamentally liberal conception of politics 2/3 years ago, glenn has begun to indulge reactionary cultural politics that he used to revile and call out in ways he'd now say are expressions of "woke sjw cancel culture"
and the reason for this is partly because he believes that by engaging with this cultural politics, he may further the project of the "populist right and left alliance". but as I and others have pointed out, there is no such thing as a "populist right". it is a mirage, a front
josh hawley, tom cotton, tucker carlson et al. are just traditional republicans cosplaying as populists by peppering in some anti-elite soundbites in between their constant, pathological, deranged racist, sexist, anti-lgbtq rants, which comprise 99.9% of their output for a reason
by indulging their grift and their base, which only cares about the reactionary cultural politics and finds the rest of the "populist" stuff to be side-issues they'd gladly leave behind, you only accomplish alienating yourself from the so-called "liberal-left", and gain nothing
incidentally this is another point of critique I have often levelled at glenn: the notion of "liberal-left" is incoherent. there is a clear difference between cynical liberal scumfucks, and leftists of whatever stripe (anarchist/socialist/communist). conflating the two is asinine
and it's bc of this conflation that you end up w/ generalizing cynical deployments of neoliberal "identity politics" by liberals, for example calling bernie and corbyn racist and sexist while shielding actual racists and sexists liberals from criticism, to the left
glenn's response to this critique would be that policy-wise he remains a committed leftist, so all the indulging of reactionary cultural politics doesn't matter. but it does. it undermines the fundamental value he himself claims he wants to realize: to oppose power centers
bc only the left is principally committed to this aim. just today one of these "populist" republicans in the senate came out against biden's FTC appointment even though they have good anti-trust credentials. why? bc they're bought and sold by their donors

glenn extends the principle of charity so easily to these grifters. and he doesn't just do it on the republican side either. early in the dem primaries mayo pete threw out some populist-sounding rhetoric and glenn was boosting him, which I called out as bizarre. same w/ yang
btw this is why I said this is a fundamentally liberal conception of politics: everything is perceived in terms of a poli-sci type calculus, believing vapid superficial rhetoric is sincere, that we need to "reach out to the moderate/republican voter". this is peak liberalbrain
there's also a national component w/ glenn that is strange to me. he seems to uniquely apply this analysis to the US, but I don't see the reasoning for it. we just saw what "right-wing populism" in office entails: tax cuts for the rich, racist, sexist and anti-lgbtq legislation
which is exactly what a hawley/cotton/carlson type admin will look like if they manage to get into office. anyway, I'll write about this in a more structured way later, but someone whose views on this I basically 100% agree with is @CarlBeijer, and they're very much worth reading

here's thomas piketty explaining what billionaires like mark zuckerberg and bill gates actually mean when they say they "gave away all their money" as part of a PR campaign to come over as "being open to wild ideas". hint: it's total bullshit
as piketty notes, when billionaires like bezos and gates say they "gave away all their money", they mean *to themselves*. and it's part of an elaborate tax evasion scheme, grotesquely sold as a selfless philanthropic endeavor by the very same mainstream media they own and control ImageImage

can you imagine a german video game company making a first-person shooter about the warsaw ghetto uprising, where you can play as the nazis? the level of sadistic depravity on display here is astounding. chomky is right: the US needs denazification

here's chomsky talking in more detail about the genocidal war crimes committed by the US in fallujah, which still cause babies to be born with birth defects to this day

whenever I post about the US regime's fascistic policies on the mexico-US borders, which it was under obama, trump and now biden, liberals say "BUT WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE DONT WE HAVE TO BE AT LEAST A LITTLE FASCISTIC???". here's yanis varoufakis providing the alternative:
and here is yanis showing how you speak to people's rationality and humanity and get them away from cheap, base, reactionary xenophobia, instead of placating it like liberals do

remember, liberals were saying the same thing when trump was in charge. they whined endlessly about kids in cages, how they were concentration camps, how trump was a fascist for that alone. and now they've dropped all that rhetoric when it's their senile racist rapist doing it

btw notice how @ggreenwald, one of the people I've been most critical of on here, helped me get my account back. there was no reason for him to do that. he could have easily ignored it and celebrated the demise of one of his critics. he didn't bc he has sincerely held principles
as I've said before, @ggreenwald is the most important journalist in the world, who has done more than most to combat right-wing fascistic authoritarianism. the snowden reporting and his critical work that helped free lula who may very well defeat bolsonaro are but some examples
he has also always maintained a commitment to anti-imperialism, most recently doing very important work exposing those behind the bolivia coup and interviewing morales. he has reported on the censoring of palestinian voices through disgusting smear outlets like canary mission

#ImStillWithHer trending reminds me of one of my favorite stand-up acts: obama just effortlessly destroying hillary clinton. THREAD WITH CLIPS
I love the way he plays on the crowd too, like a natural. when obama is running for election for himself, there are no holds barred and he will destroy whoever is on the other side. just look at this:
another one of my favorites, when obama turned hillary clinton voting against the bankruptcy bill and then saying she was glad to not see it pass into a comedy routine. btw remember bernie didn't bring this up at the debates in 2016 when asked to name one case of her corruption

today marks the 18 year anniversary of rachel corrie's murder by an israeli soldier, who intentionally crushed her to death with a bulldozer for the crime of trying to stop the demolition of palestinian homes. she bravely gave her life to help others. she was only 23
the soldier and everyone else involved in her murder were acquitted by israel, "the only democracy in the middle east". they murder palestinians wantonly without consequence, so why shouldn't they extend this courtesy to americans and others who dare join their struggle?
alan rickman adapted her diary into the play "My Name is Rachel Corrie" which you find various versions of on youtube. and here's 10-year old rachel corrie talking about her ideals. the cruelty it takes to murder a beautiful soul like this is unimaginable. she's one of my heroes
