Sunrise Movement has been getting a lot of attention in the last few days.
Just a reminder that in addition to everything else problematic about their organization, they have structured themselves to be the exact types of money they proclaim to hate:
💰 dark money
💰 SuperPAC
Sunrise's organizational status is a 501c4 nonprofit, which is what the term "dark money" almost always refers to in politics!
501c4 nonprofits...
▪️can take unlimited money from individuals, LLC's, etc
▪️can have political goals
▪️do not have to report their donors
And they also have a SuperPAC!
(They're technically a Carey/Hybrid Committee which just means they have both a PAC & a SuperPAC)
SuperPACs...
▪️can take unlimited money from individuals, LLC's, etc
But SuperPACs are not dark $ because they publicly report all donors to the FEC
Also,
In case you don't know why they're so problematic, here's one big reason:
I started fact checking a few things in Cori Bush's past and ended up writing 2 max-length threads. Enjoy!
👇Cori Bush Deep Dive Part 1👇
(p1 is her background. p2 is campaign related)
Cori Bush's background eerily parallels AOC's.
And neither of them stand up to scrutiny.
I probably could have learned more about Cori as a person from "Knock Down The House" but you'd have to pry my eyes open like A Clockwork Orange to get me to watch it.
We already know AOC "A girl from the Bronx" actually moved to Westchester County at age 5 & her family owned their house in Yorktown Heights...as well as 1.5 condos in the Bronx, one of which was her campaign address.
Nothing wrong w/that life but SHE told us a different story.
When I wrote this thread on Nov 9, AOC had only filed campaign data through Oct 14. I've been checking back every day to see when the rest of her data became available
Today's the day! 😃
This thread might not be as EXCITING as the last one but I want to look at her final #'s
