This article, from June 2020, is an important look into the manipulation tactics used against the public at large. The Oath Keepers were involved here too, and who do you think wrote and circulated those PR tips? (Not rhetorical, I don't know either)
"You don't? Why hasn't a cute little girl like you found yourself a nice rich husband yet?"
I don't know man, why do you have all those sexual harassment cases pending against you?
Runner-up, from a editor who had evidently never even bothered to look at my resume: "Why don't you get your husband to take you on a nice trip and do some journalism from there? Then you can get some international reporting chops!"
I warned everyone that the border disinformation campaign -- rolled along by the same eugenicists I warned about during the Trump administration -- were going to use this to change the subject. It's so fucking predictable
But at least just about all my colleagues are bravely stepping right up and... going along with an orchestrated disinformation campaign as though the last few years never happened
You remember how I say bad entities are using social media algorithms and sockpuppets in order to offer the illusion of consensus and popularity where none truly exists, in order to sway the uncertain and the joiners?
There will very likely be performative outrage and a full-blown disinformation campaign around this. It will emerge from the bowels of white supremacist fever swamps, get laundered by local far right radio hack Carl DeMaio on the air and Facebook groups off the air, and then...
...members of the ReOpen San Diego and Defend East County groups will get their usual crews together to astroturf anti-migrant "demonstrations" that will then by covered by clueless local press as though they are genuine, authentic, and simply "concerned citizens."
It won't just be DeMaio, but he's definitely the one laundering the most noxious content as fodder for his terrible radio show right now.
