To give you some nuance, my mic is switched off in parliament. In the middle, while I am giving a speech it is switched off. So the essence of parliament is that I am allowed to speak, the essence of parliament is that when I am speaking the country can see what I am saying.

I will elaborate on the conversation within parliament. BJP MPs cannot have an open discussion in Parliament. They tell me that. They are told what to talk about in parliament.

It is a straightforward top-down thing. One BJP went into a meeting with PM, raised his hand said I do not agree with you. You know they threw him out. It is the same with the judiciary. It is the same with the press. So it is a constant onslaught. That's where the problem is.

When the Britishers were leaving India the question was the transfer of power to whom. That was the challenge. Who do you transfer power to?
It was Congress Party that created the environment for the transfer of power. The British were asking a legitimate question in the 20s.

They were saying okay to whom do we transfer power. Not to the Maharaja’s obviously, because the Maharajas were not India. The Maharajas were divided. India was at war with itself. So the answer to that question came from Mahatma Gandhi and the Congress party.

They said transfer power to the people of India; through the vote; the parliament; the constitution. Then further development through institutions that will protect the voice of the people of India. So it is not just diversity but active negotiation between that diversity.

Most of the problems that confront us are due to the absence of interactions, discussions, negotiations.
