I am worried we will be facing a mass exodus of NHS staff at the end of this wave. If we do not look after our staff now there will be no-one left to look after our patients. If you support us will you follow and RT to your followers? A very tired ICU doctor ππ»
I would never have got through the last year without my colleagues. So I am so sad that many of them are planning their exit from the NHS. These are dedicated doctors and nurses, the same people we clapped for every Thursday, and there is a very real risk we could lose them.
There is no doubt there is a lot of trauma. We were never trained to hold iPads so families could say their goodbyes. To ventilate our colleagues. To clap as their hursts drove past our EDs. But when you listen, really listen to people about why the want to leave, itβs not that.
Morale was at rock bottom before the pandemic. We were losing people left, right and centre. Staffing was critical. We went into fighting this pandemic with one hand behind our backs. But if nothing else the pandemic had shown who the key workers of this country really are.
Yet the Government has continued to treat those who put their lives on the line to save others with callous disregard. NHS staff feel abandoned even as all the trauma they went through is only just catching up with them.
So please, continue to show a bit love for NHS staff. They need your support now more than ever, and to know they havenβt been forgotten as they try to heal. Follow those speaking up for NHS staff such as @TheDA_UK and @NHSMillion. Now is the time to get more vocal, not less π
To those asking what will help:
β hot food for staff overnight
β access to tea and coffee
β adequate staff rooms
β on call rooms/place to sleep
β free parking
Itβs not rocket science. A lack of these make a hard job even harder. Small things do wonders for morale.
So as the second wave abates please donβt forget about NHS staff.
Amplify the voice of those speaking up, support campaigns for change to ensure we donβt lose dedicated NHS staff.
We are still here for you, we hope you are here for us π

NHS staff are devastated that the UK now has the highest death rate in the world. I am leading a group of doctors taking the Govt to court for a public inquiry.
We will keep you updated as the evidence comes out. Could you RT and follow to help us hold the Govt to account? ππ»
We are a group of frontline NHS doctors. So far we have collated evidence from frontline health & social care staff, experts & sadly from bereaved families. It is truly shocking. We will share when we can, the case is going before a judge next week for an inquiry. Wish us luck π€π»
For those asking sadly this testimony includes texts and emails sent by nurses and doctors begging for PPE in the days before they caught COVID and died. From those who saw COVID ripping through care homes after patients with COVID were discharged back to them π
NHS speaking up feel a great duty to ensure the public are aware of what is happening on the frontline. We are our patientβs advocates. But we shouldnβt be finishing 22 hour shifts fighting the virus and then spend time off fighting disinformation and abuse on social media...1/4
It is exhausting trying to dispel COVID myths, trying to engage with those who donβt believe COVID even exists to those who donβt want to put on a mask. Iβve had all sorts. From death threats to multiple abusive DMs a day. It is so demoralising 2/
Somehow NHS staff have become the first line of defence in UK public health using what little energy they have left fighting disinformation as well as fighting the virus. Because of this NHS staff are being pummelled with abuse online, at a time when they most need support. 3/
I am devastated by the abuse NHS staff are getting on Twitter. You might have noticed Iβve been posting π for a while hoping it will catch on...but if you stand with the NHS and itβs staff please you will help turn Twitter blue and pop an #NHSblueheart on your name? Pls RT!
Wow, I am almost in tears to see the overwhelming support for NHS staff and each little blue heart π Well actually I am in tears. Please if youβre putting a little blue heart in support of your NHS staff could you tweet #NHSblueheart? Letβs get this trending πππ
If you want to leave a message of support for NHS staff with #NHSblueheart as well so they can read that would be just so lovely. Twitter has been a really hard place for NHS staff, lets show them how much support they really have πππ
Please help frontline NHS staff get their voices heard. Itβs very difficult for us to get out what is happening on the ground at the moment and things are at breaking point. Please will you RT this and follow those speaking out? ππ» #thread
Hereβs @doctor_oxford Dr Rachel Clarke. She is a palliative care doctor working on the frontline. The last time I saw her she had just done a 96 hour on call and still spent her one day off advocating for the NHS, itβs staff and patients. Definitely follow if you arenβt already.
Hello, I run a network for over 46K doctors. Things are really bad on the frontline and NHS doctors need help getting the word out. If you support the NHS would you tweet this to your followers so I can help get out what is happening on the ground? @TheDA_UK ππ»
Hospitals are running out of oxygen.
One trust has no non-invasive machines left.
ICUs are tweeting for volunteers to prone patients.
Transfer teams being requested to move patients 65+ miles to nearest hospital with critical care capacity.
Please. Stay at home if you can.
NHS staff are at breaking point. They are trying to speak up about how bad things are on the frontline but are being shot down on Twitter. Today we learnt that we have more patients with COVID in hospital than ever before in the England. This is not a drill. Please believe us ππ»
