Discrimination comes at a high cost, do you think South Dakota is ready to pay up? 🤔
To better understand the economic consequences of House Bill 1217, a bill that would ban trans girls from playing sports on teams that are consistent with their gender, we can look to what happened to North Carolina after they passed House Bill 2, an anti-trans bathroom bill.
After House Bill 2 was passed businesses like @PayPal@googleventures and Deustche Bank that supported transgender people, started pulling out of projects and banning further investment in the North Carolina economy until the bill was repealed.

When pulling out of a planned project for a new global operations center that would have brought a $3.6 million investment and 400 new jobs to North Carolina, PayPal CEO, Dan Schulman said:
Analysis by @APNews estimated that passing House Bill 2 lost North Carolina a total of $3.76 billion and over 2,900 jobs.
They later concluded this was likely an underestimation.
Canceled conventions, concerts and sporting events alone deprived the state of more than $196 million, according to state tourism officials. apnews.com/article/e6c7a1…
It does not make sense for our lawmakers to put South Dakotans at risk of losing potential employment opportunities by signing House Bill 1217 into law.
🗣️ We can stop this bill, but it will take all of us rising up and fighting back to make it happen. aclusd.org/end-hb1217-now

The fight against House Bill 1217, a bill which would ban transgender girls from playing on sports teams consistent with their gender, is in the homestretch. Our time to beat this bill is limited.
🚨Right now, we need all hands on deck before #SDLeg votes on HB1217 on MONDAY.🚨
@govkristinoem recently issued a style and form veto to House Bill 1217, which #SDLeg will be voting on first.
Yet these revisions won't change the fact that this policy is harmful to trans South Dakotans, and a violation of Constitutional and federal civil rights law. ⚖️
🗣️ NO FORM OF HOUSE BILL 1217 IS ACCEPTABLE.
🚨 ACT NOW: Call/write South Dakota State Senators and ask them to oppose any revised version of House Bill 1217. aclusd.org/en/end-hb1217-…
