My case for #Zcash

Evolution of privacy in cryptocurrencies (as I understand it)

1. t2t

pros: @Bitcoin!; supported by exchanges; less regulatory concerns

cons: full information leakage

2. partial privacy (use of decoys, t2z2t transactions, privacy add-on features for non-private blockchains)

pros: better than t2t as it seeks to make it harder to link leaked information; coins that default to "private" mode arguably make it more effective, but this is temporary

cons: partial information leakage weakens security; can't make money that is in flight private; decoys/sidechains have limitations vs. blockchains that implement ZK proofs from the beginning

3. t2z (rest in shielded pool)

pros: enables shielded and transparent transactions, minimizes information leakage

cons: requires incentive to HODL coins in shielded pool; not as secure as z2z

potential areas for improvement to increase shielded pool:
-Sapling upgrade has greatly helped increase shielded pool usage; Halo 2 coming this year;
-migrate to POS or create a bridge to @SecretNetwork (as discussed on @zecpages)

4. z2z

pros: no information leakage!

cons: requires infrastructure/ecosystem to support shielded transactions (exchanges, wallets, etc.); regulatory concerns; "competitors" can copy/paste technology

z2z potential areas for improvement:

a)Zcash's open source policy for their ground-breaking Zero Knowledge proof technology has been criticized by some zero-sum thinkers that don't understand @zooko and team's mission.
this strategy accomplishes the following:

accelerates
-adoption & development of zero knowledge proof technology (see JPMorgan)
- creation of ecosystem (daunting task for Zcash alone)
- transparency & decentralization

- the result? a POSITIVE SUM OUTCOME! Yes, other crypto projects have benefited from ZCash sharing it's advanced technology, but this in turn will benefit ZCash in the long run as the snowball effect will accelerate education, adoption, and support for ZK proofs! win/win!

b)Continue working with regulators, exchanges, etc. to influence and educate on ZK proofs; once infrastructure is in place, default to shielded addresses to allow opt-in information sharing or remove transparent addresses altogether.

c)Continue to educate the public on the risks involved with information leakage. (thanks @zooko, learned a lot from your presentation today!)

d)A catalyst event (regulations, Halo 2 release, a tweet from Lord @elonmusk) will catapult Zcash into mainstream adoption.

Summary:
Zcash is uniquely positioned with the team, technology, funding, roadmap, and vision to win the 'crypto war'. Zcash is still in its very early stages at just 5 years old; while it may be losing the "price" battle with other cryptocurrencies right now,

once it progresses to privacy models 3 and/or 4 it will win the war - and the best part is that it's not a zero-sum game or winner take all 'war'! This is a technological revolution and Zcash is a pioneer helping to blaze the path forward.

These are some of the reasons why I believe in @zooko and the future of #Zcash and $ZEC.
