1. How many of us know that the game of "Snakes and Ladders" was the brainchild of Sant Dnyaneshwar, the 13th Century Marathi saint ?

He created the game called Moksha Patam or Parama Padam to teach Hindu values to children. The British renamed it as Snakes and Ladders.
2. The ladders represented virtues and snakes vices. In the original game, square 12 was Faith, 51 was Reliability, 57 was Generosity, 76 was Knowledge, and 78 was Asceticism. These were the squares where the ladder was placed.
3. Square 41 was for Disobedience, 44 for Arrogance, 49 for Vulgarity, 52 for Theft, 58 for Lying, 62 for Drunkenness, 69 for Debt, 84 for Anger, 92 for Greed, 95 for Pride, 73 for Murder and 99 for Lust. These were the squares were the snake was placed.
4. The Square 100 represented Nirvana or Moksha. The top of each ladder depicted a God or one of the various heavens (kailasa, vaikuntha, brahmaloka) and so on.

As the game progressed various actions were supposed to take you up and down the board as in life…
5. The British took the game to England in 1892 and named it Snakes and Ladders and changed it according to Victorian values.

Good morning all. Starting the day with the thread on the origin of Kashi. Om Namah Shivay
1/n Once Lord Shiva told Goddess Parvati Devi that at the time of pralaya (deluge) all the three, that is, himself (Lord Shiva), Parvati Devi and the place Kashi got manifested simultaneously by the grace of ‘Aadi Purusha’, that is, The Almighty God Bhagavan Sri Vishnu.
2/n That means, Kashi is as old as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati Devi.
Bhagavan Sri Vishnu has created a divine reservoir at Kashi with his Sudarshana chakra and filled it up with his sweat and engaged himself in an austere tapas.

Once upon a time, Bhagavan and Sage Veda Vyasa Ji (he is an avatar of Bhagavan Sri Vishnu) came to Kashi with his disciples and went for Bhiksha (holy offering of food for sadhus).

But at that time no one gave them the Bhiksha.
They all slept with empty stomach in the city of Annapurna Devi.

This same condition continued for seven days.

Bhagavan Sri Veda Vyasa Ji got angry and was prepared to curse the place Kashi.
But at that time, Goddess Annapurna then appeared before him and gave all of them the Bhiksha.

Lord Vishwanath also appeared there, but banned Bhagavan Sri Veda Vyasa from coming to Kashi, as he was prepared to curse the place Kashi.

What are the significances of Rameshwaram | How Rama Setu was constructed | Why Rama installed Linga at Rameshwaram

Once, Shaunaka Maharshi and few other sages asked Sutaji, as to how could a man become free from the bondage of the world.
They also inquired whether there was an existence of any such holy place capable of liberating a man from heinous of sin.

Sutaji replied:

‘Ramateertha (Rameshwaram) is supreme among all the places of pilgrimage.’
‘A mere sight of this holy place is enough to free a man from the bondage of this mortal world.’

‘Going on a pilgrimage to Rameshwaram gives virtues similar to what is attained by performing all the yagyas.’

Why do you always long for US approval @ShekharGupta ji. What is the warning that @FareedZakaria gives? It has ZERO substance. I am very sure he has not read anything about whatever he is talking about. Let me demolish his arguments

1. Zakaria quotes some survey which suggests that India has suddenly become "partly free" from "free" over the last 8 years or so ie. during Modi's Rule.
2. OK. If its only "partly free" then there would less protests or voices against goi. On contrary there have been so many protests and vocal anti modi magazines and journalists. So vocal that they even drag PM's personal life and carry false stories to support the narratives.
