Lawless. Elements of the NSW Police Force are just lawless. We found out very late today that a senior officer at Strike Force Raptor sent out two police to intimidate a solicitor on his way to court to represent a client in a case against Raptor lecc.nsw.gov.au/news-and-publi…
The police waited outside the solicitor’s home early in the morning then twice stopped his car, issued infringement notices and defects, as he drove to town. He took his car home and caught a taxi. The police followed and stopped the taxi too.
They then waited on the street outside his office before the hearing and followed him to court. He was so shaken he told the magistrate what happened and had the case adjourned. None of this is disputed btw.
As he left the court between five and ten Strike Force Raptor officers were outside and he was so intimidated he went back inside and asked the magistrate if he could exit both the rear door. The magistrate let him. He told his client he better not act for him because of this.
Police then defected his motorcycle the next day (he was riding his bike because his car was off the road due to earlier police action). Did I mention this was all intentional intimidation directed by a senior (now retired apparently) police officer.
End result is no one has been charged with attempting to pervert the course justice, intimidation or anything (other than the solicitor who paid one of the fines). This is seriously lawless behaviour by a number of police acting in concert and it’s close to unbelievable.
We not leave it here I can assure you. Seriously unbelievable.
Quick update on all this - we have had numerous lawyers suggesting significant potential criminal offences ranging from “perverting the course of justice” to contempt of court. We are currently considering an open letter pressing for an interstate police investigation for Monday
We have also been very surprised how little coverage this has had in traditional media. One story in the Daily Mail and otherwise brief and very perfunctory coverage. No broadcast coverage. Nothing to highlight its serious threat to the rule of law.

The 30 wealthiest schools in NSW (all private of course) have a combined income greater than some of our South Pacific neighbours like Tonga and Samoa. Worse still their public funding has surged in the last three years.
Between just 2017 and 2019 Knox Grammar School’s income surged from $98,694,783 to $110,316,930. That’s an EXTRA $11.6 million all just for one elite religious school on Sydney’s North Shore.
Or how about Scott’s College at Bellevue Hill. It’s 2017 income was
$68,335,636.00 and it surged to $88,254,181.00 in 2019. That’s almost a 30% increase 🤬🤬🤬

I'm in the Chamber now seeking the release of all the documents relating to the NSW Police Strike Force Wyndarra failed requests to travel to SA to interview the victim of alleged rape - the answers we've got to date just doesn't stack up #nswpol
Happy to report we've had unanimous support for this. I will stay on the case.
Strike Force Wyndarra was established to undertake the investigation on 4 March 2020.

Police in the strike force sought to travel to South Australia to speak to the complainant between Sunday 15 March to 18 March.

Regional Arts NSW say arts organisations in the regions have been particularly impacted by bushfires and COVID and ongoing drought - in September 2020 Govt announced ongoing funding would not be delivered
A real lack of engagement, collegiality or understanding of the sector from Create NSW - It appears to be understaffed, frequently restructured and has too much insecure work which leads to a lack of corporate knowledge and industry acumen
Even those in peak bodies don't have any understanding about how the funding is allocated, what the initial funding pool is, what the Minister's role is, how many grants are available etc.

Just spoke to @2SMNews and will be on @702Sydney at 7:45 talking about the Government’s dodgy grants - council grants and now bushfire grants horribly politicised and given to Coalition seats regardless of need
@2SMNews @702Sydney From 9.30am the inquiry into grants that I chair will be looking at Arts grants and how these have been unfairly allocated & created ridiculous application workloads for organisations #nswpol
@2SMNews @702Sydney You can watch this live here: parliament.nsw.gov.au/Pages/webcasts… We'll also try and live tweet what's happening. Also add next Monday to your diary: we'll have the Deputy Premier in the witness box.

The First Nations inquiry which is looking at deaths in custody starts now with our first set of witnesses - we're looking at death in custody, over-representation of First Nations people in the justice system and what needs to change #NSWpol

Hearing from the Bar Association that there are concerns that the system is focused on "reporting" and not "doing" - we also see COVID has reduced prisoner numbers in NSW so it clearly can be done, if there is political will
Now @NSWYoungLawyers raised concerns about the targeting of young people especially Aboriginal people through strip searches and the Suspect Target Management Program.

Another day in Parliament - another day keeping them honest. We'll start with the senior advisors in the Premier's office whose emails exposed that Gladys had signed off on more than $100 million in grant funding pork-barrelling Coalition seats before the 2019 election #nswpol Image
Then we'll be looking further into the need for independent funding for bodies like the ICAC and the Ombudsman to ensure the Government can't punish integrity agencies by cutting their budgets - this week alone shows just how necessary this is! Image
I am the Chair of the Committee undertaking both of these inquiries - we won't let them hide the truth!
