This is repulsive. The US Govt -- after decades of engineering and cheering coups throughout South American -- did the same with the 2019 coup in Bolivia. The coup regime massacred indigenous protesters. Now Biden's Secretary of State is demanding immunity for the coup leaders.
If you're a democratically elected government in Latin America -- which, no thanks to the US, is how Bolivia is governed -- the absolute last thing you should do is take orders from the imperialist ghouls in Biden's State Department, who have huge amounts of blood on their hands.
"We are deeply concerned by growing signs of anti-democratic behavior .... in Bolivia," says the State Department, which has done more to spread "anti-democratic behavior" around the world than anyone.
Blinken tweeted this sermon after sending arms to the Saudis and Sisi.
This is what the US Government -- now doling out democracy lectures in defense of Bolivia's coup regime -- explicitly cheered. Nobody is fooled by this propaganda any longer except some US journalists:
(I should also add here that in terms of the petty framework for declaring who is "on the left" in US politics and who isn't, it's so notable what counts and what does not count for that determination: the more substantive the issue, the less it counts).
The Democratic Party's foreign policy operatives -- including @SecBlinken -- are murderous, bloodthirsty, hypocritical liars and imperialists. All those terms, often overused, are made for them:
What makes US @SecBlinken's Bolivia tweet extra-repulsive is US liberals are bloodthirsty for the fullest possible punishment of a few hundred Trump boomers who rioted at the Capitol. But these goons actually instituted a military coup & massacred people:
Powerful media figures now invoke sexist and racist tropes to cast themselves as so fragile and marginalized that critiques of their work constitute bullying and assault.
The *only* purpose of that @USATODAY article -- like so many from CNN, NYT, Daily Beast, etc. -- was to ruin the lives of powerless private citizens: prevent them from raising donations for their legal defense!
Then these bullies turn around and self-victimize to bar criticism.
This is the dirty little game journalists at major newspapers like @USATODAY play: they use their huge platform to attack and try to ruin the lives of powerless people & private citizens, then depict *themselves* as the fragile victims, the bullied, to bar any criticisms of them.
I'm going to have an article on this in just a bit. It's a massive scam journalists are running: If you're capable of writing news articles in the largest and most influential papers in the country -- attacking private citizens - then you're fair game to be criticized.
Watching journalists weaponize the language of the voiceless and the marginalized and then apply it to *themselves* -- to cast criticisms of them as some moral crime "bullying" or "harassment" -- is repugnant. You have the right to criticize journalists at major outlets. Use it.
Congratulations on using your new journalistic platform to try to pressure tech companies to terminate the ability of impoverished criminal defendants to raise money for their legal defense from online donations. You're well on your way upward in this industry for sure:
Not exaggerating: seems like 50% of journalism these days is finding new ways to pressure and shame tech companies to silence, censor and vanish people from the internet disliked by journalists. Their main cause is not transparency but internet censorship
If you ever find yourself confounded, frustrated or repelled by the behavior of mainstream journalists, just read this relatively short essay by Freddie deBoer which really does explain it all as perfectly and succinctly as anything could:
Let me just say again that there are few things I value more than good faith critics who really attempt to engage what you've actually said, while denouncing the cheap, smear-artist liars who can only criticize you while lying about your views. This video is a master-class in it:
I hadn't been familiar with @Zer0Books' show before, but if you've followed any of my recent conflicts with various liberal-left media sectors, this video is a very smart, amazingly produced & quite amusing critique of the worst factions in that culture:
To illustrate: @kittypurrzog & @jessesingal denounce someone here as maliciously anti-trans. Both are in the 90th percentile of the public - at least - in *defending* trans rights, but in dogmatic leftist circles, they're anti-trans genocidal monsters:
Karmic justice can sometimes be so sweet that it verges into the super-natural
Days after Brazil's Supreme Court overturned former President Lula's convictions based on our year-long exposé showing his judge & former Bolsonaro Justice Minister was corrupt, I'm just hanging out being pronounced "irrelevant" by some liberal banality who writes about the TV.
As this sector of the digital liberal media rapidly erodes and crashes down on their heads, these people get more warped and desperate, and their sense of priorities even more trivial and deranged than before. Going to the grave with zero self-reflection.
The repressive objective of Congress is to transfer the power to police political discourse from these tech giants to themselves.
The hearing yesterday was a stunning display of authoritarianism: one member after the next issuing threats if their censorship demands are not met.
Having endured all five hours of it, I could not help but take a brief detour to express how bizarre it is to watch the way Mark Zuckerberg "communicates." There's nothing like it, and he united all members across the political spectrum in visceral contempt.
