1. Many media outlets are reporting Georgia's new voting law restricts voting in some ways but expands early voting

For many Georgians THIS ISN'T TRUE

In counties with lots of Democrats & people of color, the bill RESTRICTS EARLY VOTING

Facts matter

Follow along if interested
2. Previously, Georgia counties only had to provide one weekend day for early voting. The bill makes two Saturday's mandatory and leaves both Sundays optional.

But Fulton County and others that tilt Democratic already offered early voting on all four days.

So no change there.
3. But the new law PROHIBITS Fulton County from using mobile polling sites to cut down lines and make voting easier during the voting period. That's what they did last year.

So if you live in Fulton County, this is one way in which the new bill RESTRICTS early voting.
4. The bill also moves runoffs to just four weeks after a general election and has no mandatory weekend early voting for runoffs.

It takes time to print ballots. So early voting for runoffs will likely be REDUCED EVERYWHERE because there isn't enough time to set it up.
5. Saying that the bill EXPANDS EARLY VOTING when it will restrict early voting for hundreds of thousands of Democrats and people of color is journalistic malpractice.

1. What's remarkable about Georgia's new law restricting voting is how it addresses all the "problems" that Trump invented out of whole cloth

@GovKemp rejected these conspiracies at the time but signed the law & now is pretending like its serious policy

popular.info/p/what-really-…
@GovKemp 2. Trump falsely claimed that drop boxes were a source of fraudulent ballots.

The new law restricts the number of drop boxes and requires them to be placed inside early voting sites, making them less useful

No reason to do this other than Trump's lies

popular.info/p/what-really-…
3. Trump claimed Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) was part of a conspiracy to steal the election for Biden.

So the new law removes Raffensperger as a voting member of the State Election Board.

No reason to do this other than Trump's lies.

- restricts drop boxes

- curtails early voting for runoffs

UPDATE: The Georgia General Assembly has passed a sweeping bill to restrict voting. It now heads back to the Georgia Senate.

It's now a critical moment for corporations like @CocaCola, @Delta, @UPS, @Aflac, @HomeDepot and @SouthernCompany

ajc.com/politics/bill-…
@CocaCola @Delta @UPS @aflac @HomeDepot @SouthernCompany 2. The Georgia Chamber, which represents these companies, said it stood in "opposition" to provisions in Republican proposals that "restrict or diminish voter access"

The implication was they'd push to get those provisions removed. That didn't happen

3. The bill that is barreling toward the Governor's desk would impose new ID requirements on absentee ballots, severely restrict the use of drop boxes, curtail early voting for runoffs, and criminalize giving water to people waiting in line to vote

1. Florida Republicans say the state did an amazing job with the 2020 election and there was no fraud (Trump won!) but they are pushing significant new voting restrictions anyway and are having a hard time explaining why

This is an actual quote from the sponsor of Florida's main voter suppression bill who was pressed to explain why he was introducing the legislation if 2020 went smoothly

1. 3 major corporations — @Intel, @ATT, and @Cigna — pledged to stop supporting members of Congress who voted to overturn the election in January

Then they broke their pledge in Feb.

@intel @ATT @Cigna 2. @Intel said it "will not contribute to members of Congress who voted against certification of the Electoral College"

Then Intel donated 15K to the NRCC, the main fundraising group for House Republicans. 2/3 of the House GOP voted against certification

@intel @ATT @Cigna 3. @Intel told popular.info: "Our policy halting direct contributions to members of Congress who voted against certification of the Electoral College results still applies"

Which tacitly acknowledges Intel is funding these members via the NRCC

BREAKING

@Intel has broken its pledge to end contributions to members of Congress that voted against certifying the electoral college results

On 2/26, Intel donation 15K to the NRCC, the official campaign arm the GOP House Caucus

Two-thirds of GOP House members were objectors
@intel Here is the statement, @Intel release in January.

A month later Intel wrote a 15K check to the NRCC.

That money will be used to support dozens of members that voted against certifying the Electoral College
.@Intel's statement was one of the strongest issued as it appeared to be a permanent commitment

Still, it thinks it can get away with this
