Easiest way to look at this is what love is NOT.

Love is universal, it can never be between distinct entities. When one realises oneness, true love follows. The sense of man and woman is dead when one attains true love. 1/n

However, we see that in nature every object animate or inanimate tries to attain oneness knowingly or unknowingly. For, instance we dress according to mainstream since we want to feel one.

Carnality is a futile attempt to unite the masculine & the feminine principles and so on

Such attempts are worthless as its foundation is itself based on change. Like, the mainstream apparel fashion changes etc. and everytime we too change.

This can never result in love, it leads to despair as is widely evident. So love has no boundaries, it is simply infinitely vast, strong and invincible.

Second, Love is not attachment.

Attachment is that which gives you pain. Love is that without which you cannot live. If love becomes attachment, then the same love which was giving you joy, starts to inflict pain. Attachment is when you want something in return.

The Narada Bhakti Sutras or the aphorisms of love talk at great length about Bhakti or divine love.

"Having attained that, there is no more craving, no desires, there is no sadness, you do not hate anything, nothing else seems more rejoicing" - 5

One goes beyond philosophical maya when one loves the entire world selflessly and not just one's relatives and friends. This love for the entire world, compassion, is called Daya.
