AHS is aware that some vaccine clinics in Alberta are experiencing long line ups of individuals waiting to receive their vaccine. Everyone is eager to receive their immunization. All those who have booked their appointments will be vaccinated.
We have added additional staff and signage at sites to encourage people with appointments to wait in their vehicles until their appointment times.
Each appointment is booked in 10-minute increments. This helps ensure we can maintain social distancing at all immunization clinics. Some individuals are arriving at appointments 30 – 60 minutes in advance, and as a result, wait lines are forming outside some of the facilities.

Alberta Health Services has improved access to 811. Albertans calling 811 now have a choice to route their calls to book a COVID-19 immunization appointment or to reach a registered nurse for medical concerns.
The two options will help refer callers more quickly to the resource they need. A holding queue for callers requesting the immunization appointment option has also been created to allow 350 individuals to wait for a Health Link team member to book their vaccine appointment.
Albertans can book a COVID-19 immunization by booking online at ahs.ca/covidvaccine or calling 811. Combined, the system can take approximately 5,000 bookings an hour.
More than 72,000 Albertans 75 and over have made appointments to be immunized against COVID-19. The online booking tool has stabilized since launch on Wednesday morning. We very much appreciate everyone’s patience, and we understand the frustration.
Yesterday, more than 2,000 of these 75+ Albertans received their vaccinations, with several thousand more scheduled for today.
There are appointments available through 811 or the online booking tool in all zones. The tool is available at ahs.ca/covidvaccine
Alberta Health Services has put additional queuing software in place to help manage the volume of users on the AHS COVID-19 immunization booking tool.
This software will indicate an estimated wait time, and where each individual is in the booking queue to give people the option to continue booking, or to try again later.
As of 7 p.m., 43,000 eligible seniors, 75 years of age and over, have booked appointments using the AHS COVID-19 immunization tool and 811 since it went online at 8 a.m.
