🧵 A surprising discovery as a new MLA is how little information we get from the Sask Party government. I get we won’t get cabinet discussions disclosed; but in regards to COVID & public health 98% of the time we get the same info as the public and media, at the same time -
This means that advocacy I do, is based on what ‘real people’ share. It also means I can’t verify with any gov organizations. In essence, a lot can be and is dismissed as “hearsay”.
On vaccine distribution and access, I’ve heard some interesting things. Some may explain how so many in the Premier’s home constituency were vaccinated “early”.
Health workers shared that vaccine uptake among LTC workers hasn’t been great.

This is damning for the Sask Party government as they clearly didn’t do substantial public education or build trust when vaccine hesitancy is well-established at the best of times.
When public health workers ended up with extra vaccines, there was no plan or process for them to deploy them strategically, and a panic to use them.

I’ve heard that workers were told to “call your church’”, or “call all the old people you know personally”.
Great for those folks who knew a public health nurse, but bad news for anything resembling planning or risk management.

And bad news for the rest of us patiently hoping our families and loved ones get vaccinated soon.

If this is true, this needs to be explained.
At worst, folks in the Premier’s riding got vaccine access due to... access.

At best, there was significant failure in building trust w LTC workers and planning for maximum vaccine usage.
Rosthern-Shellbrook has had outbreaks of things like pertussis - vaccine trust and use is lower in normal times.

More work should have been done on education.

Questions should be answered by this gov about how many vaccines have been lost due to poor / no planning.
And I’m not just taking shots at the Premier.

Because this didn’t just happen in Scott Moe’s constituency.

These problems happened across the province. They may still be happening.

I don’t know and they won’t tell us.
While everyone is learning, it’s unacceptable that for the Sask Party - a government that’s pinned EVERY hope and ounce of political spin on vaccines, that there’s been such a breakdown in effective distribution.
Healthcare workers still don’t have access. LTC workers aren’t vaccinated in nearly high enough #s.

Frontline workers, personal service workers, those in the disability community, and transplant recipients are still in the dark.

There’s an outbreak in a goddamned hospice.
I cannot wait for the drive throughs to start up again, and vaccines to start rolling 🙏

But the Sask Party needs to answer tough Qs. Variants are out of control.

Learning means accountability.

While I know they won’t be accountable, I worry they won’t learn.

Small biz thread:

I own and operate a small (four employee) biz. I am lucky. We can stay open, are staying safe, and are staying solvent.

Lots of my colleagues and friends aren’t. My husband’s business is shut down.

Saying that we’re all in this together is inaccurate.
Some of us are “fine”, some aren’t going to be able to reopen. Some are big, some are smaller. But all are important.

99% (ACTUAL number) of biz in SK are small.

Everyone is going to need some help whether it’s financial, guidance, or mental health.
And EVERYONE is tired.

Everyone.

Complaining about teachers or public servants getting paid is petty and pointless and dangerous.

We’re built on public and private, and every member of the public is doing a damn good job supporting local businesses with their dollars and care.
