A stupid idea but high school #SakuAtsu and Atsumu has a huge crush on Sakusa, so the first time he sets a ball served by Sakusa he freaks out because he counts it as them holding hands.

After the game, despite losing by a wide margin, he’s still giddy. He even asks Suna to switch with him so he’s in front of Sakusa. (He also tried switching jerseys. Suna left before he could even stop talking.)

Sakusa does, surprisingly. He skips some of the members but pauses as Atsumu lingers in front of him on the other side of the net, one hand outstretched.

Sakusa turns away almost immediately and their libero laughs at him, patting his back. Atsumu can’t see the blush rising on the apples of Sakusa’s cheeks, but he can see his ears, red at the tips.
Atsumu beams, waving at the retreating back. “See ya next year, Kiyoomi-kun!”

They meet more times than expected the next year. In Interhigh, though the team brackets and the crowd minimize any possible interaction. And then on All Japan Youth Training Camp, where Atsumu doesn’t have to rely on a volleyball as a proxy for Sakusa’s touch.
He shouldn’t need it anymore, not with his arms slung over Sakusa on huddles, not w/ the hesistant high fives in between sets.
But Atsumu learns after playing on the same side of the net that his favorite interactions with Sakusa will always be with a volleyball between them: +

The ball slams untouched and Sakusa looks at him with a tiny smile on his lips, and Atsumu thinks maybe this is better than holding hands.
