It's not easy for us to be visible. There's risk. We're making ourselves vulnerable by doing so. Many of us can't risk doing that at times.
It's not enough to just be visible; we have to be seen and heard by our peers for our risk to matter.
I work in phone tech support. I can't be visible to our customers. They only know my name and my voice; I sound masculine, so I'm a man to them. I could correct them, but there are too many risks, so I've stayed silent for years.
Don't take our visibility for granted.
