Before you say any of this is bizarre or outrageous, consider that this is now the norm, perpetuated by many pediatric clinicians and organizations like Gender Spectrum.
When it comes to medical transition of kids/young teens, it's patently obvious there's an irreconcilable conflict between the "T" & the "LGB." A child treated w/blockers/hormones can't have the "decisive" sexual experiences necessary to realize their sexual orientation.
To know this about young LG youth is not "transphobic." An adult allowed to go through puberty & have some sexual experiences/awareness has the wherewithal to give informed consent to medical transition. Orgs that claim to care about ALL LGBT youth should realize this.
This is rarely discussed--in fact, have not seen it EVER discussed in the media--but it's well known that the coming out process can take many years--particularly for girls and young women. 4thwavenow.com/2016/01/25/the…
The #StopClymer hashtag is trending again. Can anyone explain how *some* ppl in the ostensibly most oppressed minority on the planet suddenly gain MSM notoriety (not to mention actual political power) when they proclaim a new gender identity? nbcnews.com/think/opinion/…
Such nuance, compassion, & wisdom expressed by the woman who made this video.
In the 1st minute, she says her aim is NOT to make life harder for those who benefit from medical transition. *Most* detrans say this...yet they are still too often shut down.
It's in everyone's interest to minimize regretful detransition; that people be as certain as possible before embarking on irreversible hormone & surgical interventions. If some adults regret, it's patently obvious a slow, deliberate approach is needed for minors.
At 8:00: "I later found out my therapist didn't think transitioning was an appropriate step for me, or good for my wellbeing, but she didn't tell me that while I was taking those steps because she was worried about losing her license."
Prominent trans writer thinks it's bad that a major media outlet is finally covering detransitioners, after YEARS of non-stop coverage of trans "struggles & triumphs". Unless you've been living under a rock the last 5-7 years, you couldn't have missed the trans coverage.
...and that's not even mentioning major TV series featuring "trans kids" on Netflix, HBO, and TLC. Let's get real.
And Boylan uses the usual trope that detrans are "rare" (no one knows how many there are) and are "outliers." Advocating for the needs and wants of a beleagured group of "outliers" is AOK until it interferes with your narrative...
"Because what is behind the large increase of children who have suddenly registered for transgender care since 2013? And what is the quality of life for this group long after the sex change?"
"We conduct structural research in the Netherlands. But the rest of the world is blindly adopting our research. While every doctor or psychologist who engages in transgender health care should feel the obligation to do a proper assessment before and after intervention."
"We don’t know whether studies we have done in the past can still be applied to this time. Many more children are registering, and also a different type,” says Steensma. “Suddenly there are many more girls applying who feel like a boy."
