Durg is the worst-hit district in Chhattisgarh, where dead bodies continue to pile up at a local morgue as 38 people have reportedly died in the last seven days there.
newsbytesapp.com/news/india/cor…
The local mortuary, situated in a 500-bed government hospital, is equipped with only eight freezers but currently has 27 bodies. Further, the district's health infrastructure is dwindling as more than 6,000 have been infected with the virus in the last week.
Four to five people are dying of COVID-19 every day in the area, doctors said. Similar scenes can also be witnessed at a local crematorium, where grieving relatives dressed in PPE suits have been performing the last rites of those who succumbed to the fatal virus.
Now, the district administration is reportedly looking for other locations to bury the bodies. "We've been informed about bodies piling up in the mortuary...we are probing this. We are trying to withdraw non-COVID-19 services," said Dr. PR Balkishor, CMS (Durg).#COVIDSecondWave

Ex-Congress chief Rahul Gandhi recently questioned the US administration's silence on "what's happening in India" during a virtual interaction with former US Under Secretary of State (Political Affairs) and Harvard Kennedy School professor, Nicholas Burns.
newsbytesapp.com/news/politics/…
In the talk, Gandhi spoke on issues like India's economy, domestic politics, ongoing elections, and farmers' protests. Meanwhile, Burns said democratic nations like India and the US should come together to defend democracy and take on non-democratic countries like China.
That was when Gandhi retorted, "I don't hear anything from the US establishment about what's happening in India. If you are saying partnership of democracies, I mean, what is your view on what is going on here?" #RahulGandhi
