Having lived at the border myself, I'm not surprised by this sheer act of racism (in the form of pushbacks & inaction). So, here is my plea to my Thai Civil Society friends, please do something about this & raise the issues to put more pressure on your gov to save lives. 1/2
Our Karen brothers & sisters are in dire need of help. So many young children, women & elderly people had to run just like we have all had to do for decades. Compassion isn't expensive. I know your gov are also tyrannical but I believe in your power & the power of our solidarity!

Here's a (hot) take (probably) from the feelings people have towards news coverage in general and the CNN special. No one & I mean no one, will have your best interests at heart especially when it comes to a giant media corporation. Your issue isn't a life & death issue for them.
I took sociology of mass media last semester & let me tell you there's a lot of issues around beliefs that "objectivity" truly exist. We all are socialized to have certain set of values/believe in certain ideologies. Until we are critical of ourselves, we can't see the problem.
Media companies like CNN operates under Warner Media which owned by a giant conglomerate like AT&T isn't a good sign for objectivity or for freedom of the press/speech to flourish. At best, it is superficial b/c the people who work on the news maybe diverse though it's really not

Thread: This is out of pure frustration so forgive for being harsh. I'm really going to need all international observers, academics, journalists or anyone working on Myanmar profile to STOP speaking over us. 1. Saying people deserve this coup b/c of Rohingya Genocide is wrong.
2. It is unfair & unacademic. If you never lived in our skin, or at the least, had basic understanding of critical discourse, please leave the discussion especially if you've never consulted w/ Rohingya or ask us to review your conclusion. You don't belong in the conversation.
3. As outsiders, I don't care if you have studied the subject for the past 100 yrs, you still lack lived experience & your choice to misrepresent our truth WILL end up hindering our reconciliation process & hurt us. So please, no one will think any less of you if you leave us be.
