You know this is an interesting possibility: your parents are keeping score. I wonder how much of knowing about your HS class is about what kind of parenting you came from. This might be middle class intensive parenting over the life course? Because Vivian did not care lol
I mean you don’t just turn this off because your kids graduate:

Yep I am going with:
1. I was an introvert
2. I was passing though most of life
3. I don’t care
4. And I’m not a product of intensive parenting

Thanks, everyone. I will try to remember you in the coming years at Twitter Reunions.
And what I think y’all are attributing to small towns is mostly intensive parenting, y’all.

This got me thinking about vacation types. There is definitely this type. And then there’s my type. I think it’s all about what you are vacationing FROM:
If your job is routine and your life is pretty predictable because you have low to medium autonomy, a vacation can be a chance to flex your self-direction muscle!
Or a vacation can be all about endorphins and adventure because regular life doesn’t match your naturally high idling energy. You know those people who are wired tight. They have to almost die regularly to feel alive.

I asked someone how I am supposed to play a DVD. They told me to play it on my PlayStation. Maybe I really *do* need a brand because if you think I own a PlayStation...
I’m not even sure I have ever seen a PlayStation before and I am not kidding. I owned a One for five minutes because I worked at Microsoft. I gave it away. Never seen a wii, I don’t believe. I missed all of gaming.
To be clear, I don’t feel lack here. I’m just tripping at the casual assumption that I have a Playstation lol

This whole vaccine donut social media celebrations debate brings to mind a question I have: do white people not have the “favor ain’t fair” adage??? Why is everything reduced to “some people will be envious”? That’s literally how life goes. But then again I’m vaxxed
People are getting donuts. Favor ain’t fair.

People posting selfing getting vaccinated. Favor ain’t fair.

The thing is, getting rid of donuts and selfies won’t make the vaccine rollout more equitable. These are separate issues.
Sometimes, favor just ain’t fair. You can care about the inequalities and work on them even without being mad about the favor that doesn’t change the inequality one bit.

I roll my ideas at texts all. the. time. A certain literature professor friend knows this to be true. And then you know what? It’s fine. No one dies. Just roll your eyes and move on.
Your conscription into this, the lowest hanging fruit of the culture wars, is weird and silly and unserious.
Read around it. Read through it. Don’t read it at all. But stop pretending you care. You don’t.

I am actually surprised to see some of the names in these replies. I don’t get why people care so much about the readability of books for which they are not the audience.
If you are a celebrity or airport book writer or a television host (just a few of the careers therein), why do you care this much about a humanities text? That’s just strange.
Roseanne Cash. Lawrence O’Donnell. Jeff Jarvis (that one makes sense). Why are they invested in this so much?
