Kinnikuman ch.343, “Sacred Tag!!”: having done his duty, Mammoth Man is content to let his captain Super Phoenix take over from here. The scene switches to Phoenix and Big Body in the Roman Coliseum. wpb.cdn.cloudpublisher.jp/view2.php?p=wx… #Kinnikuman #ch343 ImageImage
(The ring collapses into the Gates of Hell, but we don’t see Mammoth Man’s body burn up, so maybe there’s still hope for him?)
Phoenix and Big Body are in a tag match against a pair of Choshin. The first knocks Big Body around with some karate chops. This god used to get along well with Phoenix’s patron, the God of Intelligence, so he takes a shine to Phoenix too. ImageImage
(Phoenix protests that he and the God of Intelligence only used each other out of convenience...but that’s precisely the sort of thing the God of Intelligence would say, so it just makes this god happier)
Phoenix’s opponent formally introduces himself: in heaven he was the God of Reason, but now he has become: Idea Man! Yep. Image
Phoenix defines reason as intelligence plus ethics (...huh?). In peacetime this can bring about cultural development, but in wartime that’s not always the case. Phoenix thinks intelligence can change the world more boldly because it’s not limited by ethics. ImageImage
Idea Man summons his partner, and they gang up on Phoenix with a Hercule-Suplex...or a Hercules-Plex (ie a Hercules Suplex)... Image
In heaven he was the God of Madness, on earth he is: The Notorious! Big Body comes to the rescue, but The Notorious just throws Phoenix at him. ImageImage
The two gods explain that in heaven many Choshin specialize in singles matches, but they’re famous for being the best tag team. Their team name: Mighty Hercules! Image
And that’s that. Thematically, I like having a Greco-Roman themed team fighting in the Roman Colosseum. And I like pairing up the God of Reason with the God of Madness. But “Idea Man” is a hard name to get over. Image

Age 712: West City College graduate Dr. Briefs invents a revolutionary system for storing objects of any size inside tiny capsules. He then goes on to found a corporation for producing these capsules. Its name escapes me. #HistoryofEver ImageImage
Dr. Briefs’ life story is outlined in rather surprising detail in his Daizenshuu 7 bio, including the tidbits that he majored in physical chemistry and got his doctorate from West City College (as you might expect), then founded Capsule Corp after inventing the capsule (likewise) ImageImageImage
(物理化学/physical chemistry is possibly a typo for 物理科学/physical science, since both are read as butsuri kagaku, although I’ll leave it to you to judge which if either seems a better fit for developing capsules)

Kinnikuman, Gold Mask arc part 1: after defeating the Seven Devil Chojin, it turns out they were just a bunch of underlings working for the Six Devil Knights, who work for Satan himself. The result? Something kinda the same as last arc, but even weirder. #Kinnikuman #GoldMask Image
The Devil Knights steal the Gold Mask from Kinniku Palace. The Gold/Silver Mask pair were given to the ancestors of the Kinniku Tribe by the gods, and are the source of Justice Chojin Power (somehow). Which means separating the masks robs all the good guys of their strength. ImageImageImageImage
The story of the Gold/Silver Masks is inspired by the fable of the honest woodcutter, with the joke that the Kinniku ancestor only acts honestly by accident. Given all we learn of the two masks later, it’s questionable how much of this tale actually happened anyway Image

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai ep.26: Popp seems more impressive than ever. The Dragon Masters...less so. Looks really nice, yet again. 3.75/5 #DragonQuest #ep26 ImageImage
The opening has been revamped a bit, with added images of stuff we’ll see in this new phase of the series. Which means it’s also a lot of stuff that wasn’t in the 90s anime at all. ImageImageImageImage
Remember that chess set from last episode? It’s moving up in the world! ImageImage

Originally of course there were 18 universes, but 6 are now gone, destroyed by Zeno because they annoyed him in some unspecified way. Zeno has the power to instantly wipe out anything, and is more than willing to use it. He may look cute, but he’s death. #HistoryofEver ImageImageImageImage
What was the sin of the 6? Who knows. Still, at the start of the manga version of the ToP, Zeno is disappointed at the lack of growth in the “Mortal Level” of most universes, saying that without growth there’s no point in having 12, and that keeping track of them all is a chore. ImageImage
This prompts the Grand Priest to suggest they reduce the number again. Lack of Mortal Level growth might therefore have been the cause of Zeno knocking 18 down to 12. It’s unspecified when this destruction occurred, or if the 6 were destroyed all at once or at different times.

While the ultimate origin of the Dragon Ball world remains hazy, its creation is still an ongoing process. Each universe has at least one God of Creation, aka Kaioshin (Supreme Kai) in charge of creating new planets and life-forms. #HistoryofEver ImageImage
To balance things out, each universe also has one God of Destruction (Hakaishin, Destroyer) to destroy planets and life-forms. The two are linked so that if one dies, so does the other (but it’s about a zillion times easier to kill a Kaioshin than a Hakaishin). Image
Kaioshin all stem from a single divine race (more on this later), but Gods of Destruction are made, not born. Promising candidates from among each universe’s inhabitants are selected for the job. Once hired, they are assisted by an angel guide, who acts as teacher/trainer/butler. ImageImageImageImage

It’s time to begin Dragon Ball: The History of Ever. All this year I’ll be shifting through DB lore in roughly chronological order, from the Big Bang (Attack and/or Mission) all the way to Turtle’s funeral. Trust me, it’ll be fun. #HistoryofEver ImageImage
In the beginning...the Dragon Ball world was created some such years ago, in some such way. It still hasn’t really been addressed in the series, despite all the god talk. However, important research in this field is currently being conducted by Professor Fu and his Universe Tree. Image
See, in the aptly-named Super DB Heroes: Big Bang Mission, Fu tries to create a new universe by having the Universe Tree gather enough energy to produce a Big Bang, which the Gods of Destruction note is the “explosive expansion during the birth of a universe”. ImageImage
